Handy Guide to how Women who would vote for McCain are voting AGAINST Women

It's actually pretty obvious, but women who are threatening to vote for John McCain over Barack Obama due to "sexism" look no further than to see the ultimate in "sexism" is VOTING for John McCain.

It's well known that John McCain left his first wife, Carol Shepp, because she was "too fat":

McCain came back from Vietnam to find his wife had been in a horrific car accident. As a result, she had gained some weight. Perhaps, the story goes, her altered physical appearance was a factor in his pursuit of 25-year-old socialite Cindy Hensley, who he would soon marry, after securing a tidy, uncontested divorce from poor Carol.

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/02/19/the-worst-thing-you-can-say-about-john-mccain/

"The Real McCain: Why Conservatives Don't Trust Him and Why Independents Shouldn't", written by author Cliff Schecter, illustrates how McCain treated his second and current wife during an interview:

"At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, 'You're getting a little thin up there,'" Schechter writes. "McCain's face reddened, and he responded, 'At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.'

Sounds like a nice guy...not.

That's actually nothing compared to his anti-woman voting record (which is as bad as his voting record for veterans (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6091953).

The next President may have up to three Supreme Court appointments to make. This is the most critical to women's reproductive freedom and voting for McCain would utterly decimate women's rights (as well as many other issues) for generations. Look at the ratings McCain has on women's issues:

  • Pro-life and an advocate for the Rights of Man everywhere. (Feb 2008)
  • GovWatch: 1999: Don't force women to have illegal operations. (Feb 2008)
  • Abortion issue shows what kind of country we are. (Aug 2007)
  • Concerned if women undergo illegal dangerous operations. (May 2007)
  • Supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. (May 2007)
  • Prosecute abortion doctors, not women who get them. (Jan 2000)
  • “Family Conference” if daughter wanted an abortion. (Jan 2000)
  • Abortion OK if raped; and no testing for rape. (Jan 2000)
  • Supports fetal tissue research; against over-intensity. (Jan 2000)
  • Overturn Roe v. Wade, but keep incest & rape exceptions. (Jan 2000)
  • Support adoption & foster care; work together on abortion. (Oct 1999)
  • Wants Roe vs. Wade made irrelevant, but would not repeal it. (Aug 1999)
  • Opposes partial-birth abortions & public financing. (Aug 1999)
  • Nominate justices based on experience, and values. (Jun 1999)
  • Restrict abortions; no partial-birth; no public funding. (Jul 1998)
  • Supports repealing Roe v. Wade. (May 2007)
  • Voted YES on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008)
  • Voted YES on barring HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions. (Oct 2007)
  • Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)
  • Voted YES on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)
  • Voted NO on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)
  • Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)
  • Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)
  • Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
  • Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)
  • Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)
  • Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
  • Rated 7% by the NAACP, indicating an anti-affirmative-action stance. (Dec 2006)
  • Rated 83% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-family voting record. (Dec 2003)

Just to put the icing on the cake showing he is a HORRIBLE record on women's issues, consider these ratings:

  • In 2007 NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Senator McCain a grade of 0.
  • Senator McCain supported the interests of the NARAL Pro-Choice America 0 percent in 2006.
  • Senator McCain supported the interests of the Planned Parenthood 0 percent in 2006.
  • Senator McCain supported the interests of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association 0 percent in 2005-2006.
  • Senator McCain supported the interests of the National Right to Life Committee 75 percent in 2005-2006.

When you hear women saying they are going to vote for McCain instead of Obama, like Harriet Christian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KACQuZVAE3s), let is be known that those votes are going to help support exactly what the "Pro-Life" movement want. Women like Harriet Christian may as well spit in their daughters and granddaughters' faces when they say they are going to vote for McCain.

As for Barack Obama, look at the ratings he has with women's groups:

    • In 2007 NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Senator Obama a grade of 100.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the NARAL Pro-Choice America 100 percent in 2006.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Planned Parenthood 100 percent in 2006.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association 100 percent in 2005-2006.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the National Right to Life Committee 0 percent in 2005-2006.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the NARAL Pro-Choice America 100 percent in 2005.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council 100 percent in 2003.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Illinois Federation for Right to Life 50 percent in 2002.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council 100 percent in 2001.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Illinois Federation for Right to Life 0 percent in 1997-2000.
    • Senator Obama supported the interests of the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council 100 percent in 1997-1998.

I would love to see that "argument". Likewise, I'd love to see how any self-respecting woman would vote for him unless they were totally clueless about his record.

    7. Even if McCain has a woman VP, his record will scare off any reasonable voter concerned about women
I just hear Tim Russert mention how he could choose a woman to get Hillary Clinton supporters to come on board.

If they have a molecule of sense, they would see past this nonsense.

    14. The truth about John McCain
    THE TRUTH ABOUT JOHN MCCAIN
For the past 25 years, John McCain has consistently voted against women's health. From opposing funding for family planning programs to voting against requiring insurance coverage of birth control, McCain has taken extreme positions. He has voted against women's health and has not supported legislation that would help reduce the rate of unintended pregnancies and the need for abortion. This has earned him a zero rating the lowest rating we give in the U.S. Senate.

"Sen. McCain believes government has the right to interfere with the most personal and often the most difficult decisions affecting a woman's health. Most Americans believe just the opposite and, as more voters realize Sen. McCain's ardent anti-choice position, this will be an issue for him in the general election."
    — Cecile Richards, president, Planned Parenthood Action Fund

Just as alarming, Sen. McCain wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, potentially putting the lives and health of women in jeopardy. Sen. McCain is out of step with America's pro-choice majority: 62 percent of all voters support Roe v. Wade and, by a 20-point margin, voters believe abortion should be legal.

In battleground states, the situation is striking. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund recently polled 1,205 women in 16 likely battleground states, finding that

Despite his extreme voting record, 51 percent of women voters in battleground states have no idea what John McCain's positions are on women's reproductive health issues.
Forty-nine percent of women currently backing McCain express pro-choice views, and 46 percent of women supporting McCain over Obama/Clinton want to see Roe v. Wade upheld.
In McCain-Obama/McCain-Clinton matchups, 36 percent and 38 percent, respectively, of pro-choice McCain supporters say they are less likely to vote for McCain when told that he opposes Roe v. Wade.

    19. if people voted rationally Obama wouldn't be the nominee, so here's the other side of it. bottom li
line is: the treatment of Hillary and her supporters by the media and Obama supporters was so disgraceful and nasty it has become personal for many Hillary voters. Many of them simply will not vote for Obama under any circumstances now; like it or not, it is reality.

    22. Simply stated, a woman who is a Democrat who votes for McCain out of spite is...
... is proving the tendency that some think women are too emotional to be rational in certain situations.

A woman who is a Democrat who votes for McCain is voting for trillion dollar wars, a very conservative Supreme Court that will make legislative war on the middle class, women, minorities and do it for generations. She will be voting to overturn Roe v. Wade. She will be voting for four more years of Bush policies, including secret wiretapping of Americans, war with Iran and all those insane repercussions and for more disastrous attacks on the US Constitution.

A woman who is a Democrat who votes for McCain votes AGAINST women: her sisters, her daughters, her mother, her friends.

    20. There's a couple things I would take off that list.......
Voted YES on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008)
-If a woman is pregnant, and has no health insurance, this goes a long way in making sure she gets the proper care.

Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)
-Most Democrats find it unethical to be cloning human beings. In fact, I would say it goes against what we say we stand for.

If a Democrat voted no on these two items I would want to know why.

    23. Look a little closer...
The vote "defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP" is actually a Trojan Horse vote to try to make an unborn child considered a citizen. It would be a way to actually overturn Roe v. Wade since the legislation would recognize a fetus as an American. Sure, it would allow for proper care, but legislation that offers great pre-natal healthcare without defining a fetus as a "human being" would be better in my view.

As for "human cloning", that's another Trojan Horse term that the Religious Reich uses to stop advancement of stem cell research, including the far superior embryonic stem cell research advancements.

    25. Two things .........
A distinct line can be drawn for the SCHIP provision. If this country had universal health care then this would be a non-issue, but we are a long way from having any thing that resembles health care that is universal.

Read the cloning ban and it makes sense. It has nothing to do with stem cell research. This bill was written in answer to the dolly the sheep cloning. It prevents medical research from cloning an entire human being.

Are you suggesting we hide what a vote for McCain brings because a couple mealy-mouthed poor sports might get "upset"?

Should we not let someone who says they will vote for McCain over Obama have any clue as to why that would not only be a bad thing for the Democratic Party, but one that flies RIGHT IN THE FACE of anyone who was supporting Hillary Clinton because she was a woman? There are a plethora of other issues that McCain stands for that are as bad or worse than his anti-choice voting record. Do you want to hide that too?

If you want to hide the truth about McCain, I certainly question whether you are a Democrat.
