Poll question: Obama's VP
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 05:33 PM by Prophet 451
When I posted this as an open thread, four names kept cropping up so as a kind of "sense of DU", this poll. I'm also including Hillary (although I doubt she's being seriously considered) and a couple of others because it's late here and I'm in a goofy mood.

EDIT: To correct Webb being listed twice and add another worthy suggestion. No more edits though.

Richardson is the most logical choice.
Must have a governor on the ticket with Senator Obama. Richardson's resume will add a lot to the ticket, especially his experience in foreign policy and his stint as energy secretary.

There's also the factors of him being from a "formerly Red western" state, which will definitely help in New Mexico, probably Arizona, and possibly the rest of the Mountain time zone. And he certainly couldn't hurt when it comes to the Hispanic vote.

36. I may be a little prejudice by voting for Richardson
Because he was my Representative for many years and now my Governor.
But I would not be unhappy to see him as Secretary of State.
That is an important position to the world and I think he would be effective in that job. He knows many of the world leaders but mostly he could vastly improve or relations with South America just by being fluent in Spanish.

Now I do tout Sebelius and adore her but damn I loved Webb's GI Bill. The man is thinking about the peopel but Sebelius is fuckin' wonderful.

I liked Lex Luthor, but felt if Clinton was the nominee that would be a better running mate for her. (kidding!!)

Anyway I went Webb. If only Hagel was Dem, he'd be running mate hands down.

66. A bad list without Clark on it... he at least would get 15% of votes
I say in this order Clark, Webb, Biden, Edwards (my fave candidate for President), Sibelius (that's the right spelling I'm pretty sure), and finally Clinton only if Barack trusts her - otherwise not even a consideration, but he might give her a chance to argue why she'd be good for it, but maybe she'd rather be Sec. of State or SCJOTUS.

63. I don't mind seeing a VP Hillary
My main concern with a Hillary as President was the war issue. Obama has been the only choice if you really believed this was an illegal war all along.

As VP, Hillary would not be Commander-in-Chief, so I'm not worried about any more "shock 'n awe" invasions coming out of the White House.

It's about time Bush started to answer for the gross errors of his ways, Iraq being the number one issue to deal with, given a Dem in office.

68. I'm sure Obama and his team know better than I
But Richardson, Webb, Biden, Clinton, and Sibellius all seem agreeable choices and have merit.

Richardson - helps with the Hispanic vote and the Southwest
Webb - war experience; might draw independents
Clinton - might heal wounds
Biden - intelligent and experienced
Sibellus - adds to the change Obama talks about

76. Richardson, for so many reasons
Geography. The southwest, even with McCain, is a soft underbelly of the GOP

Ethnicity. This is a chance to reach out to Latinos, a demographic Obama hasn't had the best results with (and McCain has had good results with).

Helps kill the gun issue. Richardson has one of the most centrist and generally-palatable stances on gun rights in the Democratic party.

Nonproliferation. Obama has made this a key issue of his in the Senate, and Richardson has huge cred in this department.
