As A White Male, I'm BEAMING With Happiness Tonight
but I'm not holding my breath. I am a cynic and do NOT believe this country will elect a black man come November.

I hope to HELL I am wrong. I hope to HELL.

BUT..

Tonight, I may cry a few VERY happy tears.

PEACE

23. I agree. Make it happen.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.--Bob Dylan

about what the country will or won't do, GET OUT IN THE STREETS and register voters and GOTV and...

Obama aside, I don't usually get that excited about a particular candidate. I'm going to make voter registration the focal point of my activism.

21. Me too - registering voters - and working in my local Voter Registration Office -
I've discovered that my county -- along with virtually all other counties - is overloaded and then some from the increased registrations so I've been volunteering in the office. I alphabetize voter reg forms and file them and update addresses on the cards - not so exciting but hopefully helpful so that the staff can keep loading in the new registrations.

6. a friend of mine made me cry about a month ago,
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 06:08 PM by FLDem5
he said "I thought Obama was great and inspiring, but I didn't figure he'd go far. Then I saw, I mean it was amazing, all these WHITE PEOPLE voting for a black man. It really gave me hope, that he really had a chance, and it inspired me to donate and volunteer. I never thought I'd see the day so many white people would be cheering at an Obama rally like that."

(I'm white, he's black, btw... that may provide a little context)

It makes me so proud that all the kids in this country are changing our world! Look what they've done! Look what WE'VE done!

8. Have faith -- younger voters are the key
They see the world as the "United Colors of Benetton" -- not in
racial terms as many older people do. I remember the '60s -- I
remember losing Bobby and Martin and Malcolm and so many dreams
of REAL change coming to this country -- but I'm placing my
hopes on the younger people who may FINALLY get it right this
time ...

40. You are so right: "Have faith -- younger voters are the key "
I see it in the younger voters too; even the nieces and nephews of my very conservative in-laws. I am so hopeful for the younger generation and their dreams. I too think they may get it right.

...remember, the country elected al gore 8 years ago....but the voting machines and the feloniuos five over-ruled the will of the voters.

it will come down to this....OH or FL. i think obama can win all the states gore or kerry did. he'll need one of those two big states to put him over the top. OH or FL. pick one. that's all he needs.

So, when does the hate end, or does it? Most likely when the Admins start banning people, I suppose, as happened when Kerry won the nomination. All people who continued the negativity got banned. I cannot wait, this whole board has degenerated into a shithole.

36. Yes, we can.
From one very happy white male to another one -- yes, we can.

I've been choking up myself all day.

America has needed a rebrand in the worst possible way. There are many reasons to vote for Barack Obama. He will be capable and exciting as a leader. He will bring a new energy to Washington. He will make a few mistakes. He will learn from them. He will have the material and opportunity to become one of our nation's greatest presidents.

But side by side with all of this is that we will show the world another marvelous thing about America -- we can go back to what this country is all about. A bunch of white men realized that the revolution they fought against their oppressor would be fought against them one day. So they built revolution into this country's being. Government derives its authority from the consent of the governed. And the governed include us all -- white, black, yellow, red; male, female; old, young.

America is the kind of place that seven years after 9/11 and five years after the invasion of Iraq, we are seriously contemplating and, I think, shall elect a man named Barack Hussein Obama to be our President. We have in the first years of this new millennium demonstrated our weakness, our might, and now, at last our true character steps forward.

And let's face it. If Barack could wrestle the nomination away from the brilliant and phenomenal Hillary Clinton, he's going to have no trouble with Mr. Magoo in November.
