Russert just mentioned the GOP's new talking point.
I'm watching MSNBC's primary coverage and Tim Russert say "new democrat".

I beleive this is the new talking point, or at least part of the GOP's "rebranding".

This will be used to label all Democratic candidates/ideas as "unknown".

Watch for more of this.

1. He meant it in a good way.
As in winning with a different electoral map. CO, IA, VA etc.

8. He works for the GOP-controlled media.
He meant it the way he was instructed to mean it.

A GOP trial balloon for the summer's meme: the democrats are all unknown entities.

This will take some twists and turns, watch.

22. Exactly.
And don't forget the GOP-controlled media has been pushing "neo-liberalism" as an equivalent to laissez faire capitalism.

I'm not too happy with the GOP's new meme.

15. He's worse than that
Anyone who watches him can expect to be propagandized and misinformed.

That applies to ANYONE -regardless of whether you think you're immune. Just like advertising- the framing will eventually get to you.

7. That's probably the thing that drives me crazier than anything else in our political discourse
One stupid word can torpedo a candidate. How sad for our democracy.

11. I don't give the GOP-controlled media that much credit...
...this use of the word "new" is part of the GOP's plan to "define" all democratic candidates/policies/ideas.

This will allow the GOP to redefine history to suit their needs.

Wasn't it a GOPher who wrote that book about fascism being a liberal idea?

Talk about revisionist history, the GOP are masters at it (one of the few things they do well).

Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 06:14 PM by Puzzler
the term "New Democrat" could also backfire on the GOP. In some ways it plays right into Obama's whole theme of "change".

16. Yup. You've nailed it.
"It's so confusing"

and

"We don't know yet"

or

"So little is known at this time..."

The GOP are so predictable! It's hilarious when their transparent games are exposed and they're shocked to be discovered!

6. "New Democrat" was the "third way, " DLC ... that's how Bill C. ran
as a "New Democrat."

I'm glad our nominee is more like an "Old School Democrat" than
a DLC backer!

and why he is a strong candidate.
