Poll question: Better VP pick to draw the rural, white males: Hillary or Edwards? |
|
Hillary's pitch for the VP slot is that she will draw blue collar whites better than Obama, but if that's what's needed, wouldn't Edwards fit the bill without bringing all the baggage?
I realize there are other choices out there, but this is assuming the goal is sewing up that one demographic.

1. If we wanted the rural white male vote, we really should have nominated a Republican. |
|
Dems haven't won the bumfuck vote since FDR. We'll do fine without them.

21. OK My husband is a rural white male |
|
and while I call him names some times I really don't think he would qualify as a bum-fuck. He was for Hillary and now will vote for Obama. We also have friend in this rural area of Nebraska (farmers). The rural white males in the bunch are voting democratic and were for hillary.
Don't write us country bumpkins off!!

23. The only ones who qualify as bum-fucks are those who won't vote for a black man. |
|
Actually, "bumfuck" is too nice for them.

2. I don't remember her being some kind of working class icon in the nineties |
|
She only glommed onto the working class when she had pissed off every other demographic and alienated them beyond supporting her.

Claire McCaskill (sp?) she's from Missouri, is a low-key good lookin lady, and has been debated as one of his choices for a female VP.

I haven't been that impressed with Claire. |
|
Maybe I just caught her at bad times, but she really hasn't struck me as VP material.

She's kind of bland and uncharismatic IMHO, but Obama's the main show, so he needs someone that'll be a good second fiddle, not necessarily someone that would make a good main man themself.

|
b) could potentially bring more voters to the ticket.

the VP has to be someone who could take over if needed, and who would carry on the goal of making the changes that this country needs. That could be anyone, but not Hillary!

Edwards is so unpopular in his home state that Obama LOSES support vs McCain with him as running mate, based on polling.

I'm not sure about Edwards but I doubt Hillary won her New York Senate race on the rural White Vote.
I wonder how Sebelius and Napolitano fare in this regard.
