So when is it a good time for Obama to |
|
give up his senate seat? I always thought Kerry should have and it might have made a slight difference. To me it gives the impression that the candidate is in it to win. <Sorry i was a HRC supporter and some slogans are ingrained>
Is this going to happen? I am sad though because there will not be a AA Senator. But maybe there is a rising star that is going to take that seat?

1. No. He needs to stay there for crucial votes. |
|
Why in the world would he (or any democrat want to) risk our majority like that?

2. Well we really do not have a majority |
|
i don't think it will make much of a difference. It would show real commitment i think.

8. Sorry i have nor seen many crucial votes |
|
coming up. Nothing that would need a 1 vote to win anyway and if it is that close it's getting vetoed anyway.

12. Lieberman was running for re-election at the same time, not just keeping his seat |
|
In hindsight, Gore letting him have that back up strategy was a bad idea.
I don't remember about Kerry.

4. He doesn't have to give up his seat... |
|
until he's elected. It wouldn't make sense to vacate his seat earlier on the offchance he might lose (as unlikely as that might be), then he'd be neither President or Senator.

11. That's exactly why I am afraid of this general election.... |
|
Although I have been a Hillary supporter who will will proudly vote for, work for and give money to Obama, the notion that the GE will be a cakewalk confirms my fear that many Obama supporters and staffers (not referring to you) are politically naive when it comes to GE politics. I am wary of any candidate whose main appeal to many (not saying most) is the result of some catchphrase chanted over and over ("Yes, we can!") or the bandwagon effect.
Anyone who thinks the GOP won't pull out all the stops money-wise and dirty trick/campaign tactic is sorely mistaken. At the least, I think it will be a much closer election than people believe or, in my nightmare scenario, McCain ekes out a slim win over Obama. I hope I'm wrong.

13. I wasn't an Obama supporter until last night... |
|
I understand what you're saying.
Hillary did her best to toughen Obama up, but there's really no way to know what the GOP has up their sleeve... what cards they are holding for the GE.
I heard rumor (and I hate spreading them, but it fits this picture) from someone high up in a Republican governor's office that there is a huge bombshell just waiting in the wings. An "O-Bomb-A" is what she called it. Gave me the chills.
Good point. We must be ever-vigilant and not rest on any supposed laurels!

14. Actually, I've been discounting the... |
|
rumor of some video of Michelle somewhere denouncing "whitey" at her church but, if it exists (as unlikely as that is) and the Obama campaign concealed it, I am going to be really pissed, especially if we lose the GE.

giving up his seat didn't work for Bob Dole. And, since McCain ain't gonna give up his seat, it's a wash.

10. Why aren't you complaining about McCain |
|
and Dole and Republicans that retain their seats and run for President. What is wrong with Democrats that they so happily pick up stupid right wing rhetoric and throw it at our own party.

15. Isnt the senate 51-49? |
|
If Obama gives up his seat, its 50-49 and with Cheney, the vote is even. If I recall, under such a circumstance, Repugs could theoretically request a realignment of the senate committees, etc.

16. Seriously what difference does it make right now? |
|
Joe shithead votes mostly repug now, so what majority do we actually have? All the bills have to be so compromised to avoid veto there is no democratic bent to them. It really does not make a difference. We will pick those up and have a stronger majority after the election, and a democratic president.
