There's A Seriously Good Chance That Obama May Be The Only Minority President We'll Ever See
in our lifetimes.

However, the chances of us having a female president sometime in the next 20, 30 years is almost sure to happen at least once or twice.

Obama is the proverbial one-in-a-million shot, the Secretariat of politicians. You won't see another one like him for a loooong time, if ever.

But in terms of those lamenting the fact that you won't get to see a female president yet, sit tight, it's bound to happen and happen soon.

With over half the country being female, it's much more likely we'll see another Hillary Clinton come along than see another Barack Obama come along.

3. I don't know about that.....The U.S. will be more than half "minority" in the next 25 years....
And that's going to show up everywhere, including at the voting booth.

16. So our next WHITE president will be a minority president.
Our country is becoming more diverse. This is a good thing. It's time for members of one particular demographic "race" to give up their ridiculous sense of entitlement as "the" face of America.

Disclosure: I am a 1/8 White-Irish, 1/4 White-Norwegian, 3/8 White-French, 1/8 White-English, 1/8 Black-Jamaican American.

Hopefully that would be because we completely outgrow "leaders" and "politics".
Not because a woman or a black man would in any way be "less" than anyone else.

4. I don't know about that.
I think he's opened the doors to minorities in general. An hispanic president is very likely, imo. certainly a female president.

It will seem like less of a barrier. We haven't ahd a Catholic President since JFK but somehow it doesn't seem like such a barrier anymore. I think the same thing may happen with a minority President. I don't know though...

I am insulted that you would even think that.

8. I think that's a pretty disparaging statment to make...
You don't think that there's a single minority that could come up in the next 20 or 30 years that is intelligent, respected and accomplished? There's not an African American or Latino finishing up his law degree right now that could work his way up through the ranks and be elected in the next 20-30 years?

Christ, I didn't even know who Obama was before 2004. Imagine all the talent and intelligence that is just BEGINNING to be tapped into. Imagine all the doors Obama will open up for all kinds of minorities after this historic campaign!

To say there isn't a chance for another one in our lifetimes is basically saying, Barack Obama is way better than regular black folk. Regular black folk could have never pulled this off. Don't expect another one like him again.

Maybe that's not how you meant it. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but damn at the very least, that came off wrong.

10. The problem is that our first female president will likely be a Thatcher type
A republican along the lines of Dole or Hutchison. Bleh.

Your post also assumes that everyone who adamantly supported these candidates is young. I disagreed with her, but I could at least understand why my 80+ year old grandmother wanted Clinton to get the nom. Just as I could understand why an 80+ year old African American would have desperately wanted to see Obama.

A little bit of walking a mile in the other person's mocassins would have gone a long way in this primary.

11. In a way, JFK was the first
He was young, handsome, eloquent...but he was a Catholic and that was going out on a limb at the time. As a Catholic in a state with lots of immigrant Catholics, I felt very much like a minority and dreaded what the Republicans would have to say on the subject. ("As a Catholic, he HAS to take orders from the Pope"...and other unspeakably ignorant bullshit. That I heard not just from Republicans but from non-Catholics generally)

14. I don't believe that.
I don't believe there will be a woman POTUS in this century. Hillary would not have had a real chance at it were it not for her leg up as part of a political team. Misogyny is more entrenched and more allowed than racism.

17. There have been women governors for decades
I'm with grasswire, and the reason is the media. If they don't take a candidate seriously, s/he never gets past the first couple of primaries.

19. the media and the elites
A woman would have to attract the voters that Hillary attracted to be elected. Those voters vote FOR social programs. The powers that be will never allow such an administration.
