59. Can Al Gore serve as VP again? Just a technical question..
Because I don't know... I assume he can, and would be the BEST VP of all the choices.

But I am wondering...........is there some technicality which makes him NOT elligible?

I don't think there is a problem, just want to be sure before suggesting he's the best choice.

63. I've never heard of there being a problem - thought it was only Prez with limits
As far as I know, and as far as technically possible, a Vice President could serve an indefinite amount of terms as VP due to the lack of limitations on Vice Presidential runs.

But another liberal Dem Senator, no military experience, and do we need two Senators?

I'm all in favor if she is his choice, I like her a lot... just curious.

Is she the best choice to secure Independent and military votes?

And can you imagine America getting ready for two African Americans at the top of the ticket, I can't and I'm African American.

Maxine is a very polarizing figure and I have known her for at least 20 years and worked in most of her campaigns.

I know this is messed up, but I think he needs a plain old white dude to be his running mate. Another minority or a woman will be too "crazy" for many people.

I am ashamed to admit, but members of my own family have on more than one occasion said, "The blacks and the mexicans are taking over this country!" Can you imagine their reaction to a black/latino or a black/woman ticket? Their heads would implode! And they don't even live in WV or KY!

There's a lot of white people that still feel that way. A plain southern white dude would even out the ticket and assuage the rednecks ridiculous fears that white people ain't in charge no more.

I like Edwards. He was my first choice in candidates this year. I like him for many reasons. He's been THOROUGHLY vetted. He's a name. He has the good ole boy accent that will loosen up some of the rednecks.

Wexler is a good choice too. young, handsome. One of the "newer" politicians (i.e. can also represent change) He could help deliver Florida. And he's been an ardent supporter of Obama for sometime. I think Barack needs someone he knows will have his back.

Finally Jim Webb. He fills in the military hole in Barack's resume. He would assuredly turn Virginia blue. As a Vietnam Vet he somewhat counters McCain on that. And I THINK his son was in Iraq. He could speak to military families that wouldn't ordinarily vote anything but Republican.

In the end, it's Barack's choice. I trust him to be my President, so I trust him to make this decision too.

Bob Graham
First of all, he's from Florida, and is very popular there;
He was a Rep, Senator and Governor of that state, was is a former chairman of the Senate Foreign Intellignece Committee
He balances Obama in every way: White, southern, experienced, respected by the military and intelligence comminites
He is also older. This is a potentially HUGE advantage, as, like Cheney, he would not be expected to seek election in 2016. This would give Hillary, or possibly another Democratic up-and-comer a chance to step in.

50. I thnk Biden would be a most excellent choice, but he will be pretty old come 2016.
He'll be 73. Compare that to John McCain who's now 71. It's a drag, because I think he'd be an excellent VP and an excellent campaigner, but I also want to be able to run an incumbent VP after Barack's two terms.

Muryan made an incredible argument for Feingold to me earlier in another thread:

Only senator to vote against the Patriot Act, one of 23 against IWR. Hes jewish and strong on gay rights, which shores up some perceived weaknesses of Obama within the party (key word being perceived). He has a somewhat centrist record on gun issues, and hes also fiscally responsible.

"The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan advocacy group that pushes for fiscal responsibility, placed him on its "Senate Honor Roll" every year since 1997, and ranked him in the top two every year since 1998, making their suggestion that Feingold is also one of the top budget hawks in Congress"

Its hard for the republicans to attack him on taxes when he rates higher than almost all of the senators on fiscal responsibility. Only issue that the repubs can hit him on for being too liberal is gay marraige, and thats a wedge issue they already pulled out of the closet in 2004.

a way to deflect the coming attacks on Obama's lack of military service. Expect to hear the war hero label applied to McCain in the corporate press about a million times between now and November. Obama can shut the critics up in a hurry with a strategic VP choice.

From a strictly personal point of view, I couldn't care less if his VP has ever served in the military, but I'm not responsible for crafting the strongest possible ticket to go up against a decorated war hero vet.

Bill Clinton had no military service and Al Gore was a Vietnam vet. They still went after Clinton during his campaign about his lack of military service...even with Al Gore on his ticket.

It will matter very little to the RW machine anyway. Remember the Swift Boat Jerks and how they attacked Kerry's record? What about Cleland? Assholes went after his record, too. The RW machine won't care.
