OBAMA CAMP: Clinton VP Spot Highly Unlikely - Wall Street Journal
The " deal breaker " mentioned in this article doesn't surprise me one least bit. This is exactly what most Obama supporters were concerned about - that something from Bill's past/current business dealings and secret donors for his presidential library would be uncovered on the eve of the November election saturating nightly lead news stories up until voting day.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the word from the Obama camp is that a joint ticket is unlikely:

Close supporters suggested she would like to be his running mate, on a unity ticket.

But close advisers to Sen. Obama signaled an Obama-Clinton ticket was highly unlikely. People in both camps cited what several called "a deal-breaker" -- Bill Clinton may balk at releasing records of his business dealings and big donors to his presidential library.

1. I headr earlier tonight (talking heads) that the Clintons are terrified of being vetted
ie, that the only way Hillary can and will accept the VP slot is if Obama bypasses the standard vetting process for her. I don't recall if this was on CNN or MSNBC, but the heads laughed amongst themselves while saying it's over then, as there is no way in hell the Clinton's (particularly Bill) can allow that.

Too bad. :sarcasm:

2. Maybe Hillary can explain to her 18,000,000 supporters why Bill won't release his donor list. If
this fact is true and presents a deal buster for the Obama camp, then it might provide Obama with some cover on making his pick for VP that doesn't include Hillary.

3. If she's not Obama's VP there is no need, IMO...
If she was going to be Obama's VP, then yes...he should release the records. I think everyone knows that his donor list might cost the election and no one wants to chance it.

It's better to get it out there now to deflate expectations so it won't dog Obama later on.

6. Well, what if ' getting the donors list out now ' IS THE PROBLEM and will continue to provide
the McCain Camp and RNC a steady stream of dirt to fill the 24 news cycle with negs well into the month of November.

7. The only reason why anyone would refuse to release information like this...
is because said donors could be a potential problem for the campaign. Bill Clinton knows it. He's no fool when it comes to this kind of stuff.

8. The subject will most likely continue to come up one way or the other.
And the explanation, if the vetting process is the issue for no VP nod, should be forthcoming.

OR, Senator Clinton could simply decline consideration.

It'd be way cool though to be a fly on the wall. ;)

11. Her Saturday speech might give way to which way she'll be leaning on the V.P. issue.

4. I really thought Jimmy Carter made the most logical case against....
...her being on the ticket. I've thought exactly what he said all along. I'm just glad he stated the uncomfortable truth.

10. I read his statement and I agree with his logic. Unfortunately, Hillary might consider herself above
all rationale and realities and continue to make demands to what she considers (the V.P. position) to be hers for the taking and second to none to surrender.

9. But I thought they were vetted? No surprises, etc. Hmmmmm
No wonder the Republicans were pushing so hard for her.

13. BINGO! ....They had 8 years to prepare for Hillary's anticipated announcement that she's

entering the 2008 presidential race. They had lots of time to dig and dig and dig and photograph and dig some more...........They NEVER factored in anyone else winning especially an African American called Obama to come out of nowhere and take it away. All that research they were preparing to use on the Clintons gone to waste.
