Dear Mr Bush/McCain: Go Fuck Yourselves, Blessings on you, the Iraqi Parliment

A majority of Iraqi Parliamentarians: Agreement must have full withdrawal with a timetable and no bases

Members of the Iraqi Parliament have sent a letter to Congress which states that they want a complete withdrawal of American troops from Iraq and a scheduled withdrawal, completely undermining all of President Bush and Senator McCain's argument for a prolonged military involvement with an unending commitment in Iraq.

They want every single American out with a time table to more surge, escalation or long term occupation.

here is their statement

In a public briefing in Chairman Delahunt's subcommittee on June 4, two Iraqi Parliamentarians whose parties are among those listed s signatories affirmed that this letter was signed by members of the Iraqi Parliament on behalf of parties representing a majority of the 275 members.

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

To: Madam Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Sirs and Madam Members of the United States of America Congress and Senate.

From: Remarks on the agreements between the Iraqi Republic and the United States of America

Peace and blessing be upon you.

Based on the numerous hearings held by your parliament with regards to the agreement that the executive powers of Iraq and the United States are determine to sign;

We, the undersigned members of the council, wish to confirm your concerns that any international agreement that is not ratified by the Iraqi legislative power is considered unconstitutional and illegal, in accordance with the current rulings and laws of the Iraqi Republic. Furthermore, any treaty, agreement or "executive agreement" that is signed between Iraq and the United States will not be legal and will not enter the stage of implementation without first being ratified by the Council of Representatives, which gives the Iraqi government's legislative power, represented by the Council of Representatives, the exclusive right to ratify international treaties and agreements.

Likewise, we wish to inform you that the majority of Iraqi representatives strongly reject any military-security, economic, commercial, agricultural , investment or political agreement with the United States that is not linked to clear mechanisms that obligate the occupying American military forces to fully withdraw from Iraq, in accordance with a declared timetable and without leaving behind any military bases, soldiers or hired fighters.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives is looking to ratify agreements that end every form of American intervention in Iraq's internal affairs and restore Iraq's Independence and sovereignty over its land.

1. And here's what prompted that reaction--
http://www.gulfnews.com/region/Iraq/10218150.html

A proposed Iraqi-American security agreement will include permanent American bases in the country, and the right for the United States to strike, from within Iraqi territory, any country it considers a threat to its national security, Gulf News has learned.

Senior Iraqi military sources have told Gulf News that the long-term controversial agreement is likely to include three major items.

Under the agreement, Iraqi security institutions such as Defence, Interior and National Security ministries, as well as armament contracts, will be under American supervision for ten years.

The agreement is also likely to give American forces permanent military bases in the country, as well as the right to move against any country considered to be a threat against world stability or acting against Iraqi or American interests.

With the Clinton soap opera taking the air out of the building its hard to get any news in.

Just for the record the message was sent May 29th so it probably responding to negotiations that it had heard about.

15. Living in Thailand I had the chance to sit next to a Thai lawyer who had just
drafted their constituion. Another lawyer from the US said that he admired it and thought it was an especially gifted document.

He seemed to have been really surprised that a Thai would be so good at writing one. The American made a reference to that and the Thai said well why shouldn't it be good, it was my 6th one.

For years, we've been saying that the Iraqis need to stand up for themselves.
Can you imagine?
And now, their flawed government is standing up, not only for themselves, but to us.

14. It just works on so many levels - its like that hot dog at the park that
keeps interacting with the pizza and pretzel you ate and has distended your esophagus so that everything keeps going up and down like an eleveator giving you a unique after taste of fast food and gastric juices. And it has the same remedy - more beer.

But here is what I am thinking about in my head as I head off to bed.

What does John McCain thinking about it?

Condi Rice.

I am amazed that this hasn't hit the news though.

37. I want the Iraqi People to be our friends and allies.
We need to help them rebuild their savaged nation, a new Marshall Plan to build schools, hospitals, water sanitation, power delivery.....

It is the only way to repay them for the grievous harm we have so willfully inflicted upon the population.

We do not need to intimidate them.
We do not need to punish them further for the actions of a few.
We do not need to create a generation of radical militants in response to an occupying force.

We should respect the wishes of the legitimate, democratically elected government of a sovereign nation.

The Iraqi parliament doesn't want us there. If the Republicans favor maintaining a military presence against the wishes of the government THEY established, what does that say about their attitudes towards the "free and democratic Iraq," the establishment of which has been so often touted as the real reason for our invasion?

66. C-Span carried this...
The International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a briefing titled "Iraqi Parliament's Perspective on U.S.-Iraqi Relations" with members of the Iraqi Parliament to hear their assessment of the proposed U.S.-Iraq Security Agreement. The new security agreement is intended to replace the current United Nations Security Council resolutions authorizing the United States to engage in combat operations in Iraq which would expire at the end of the year.

Watch here:

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=205824-1

Hope this link works. I was half asleep and saw this discussion on C-Span early Friday morning. Why isn't the MSM covering this story?
