January 20, 2009 Are you planning to be there?
I know, I know, I'm jumping the gun. Let's just say that I'm very hopeful!! However, just for the heck of it, I started looking at hotels in the D.C. area at that time because if Obama wins (WHEN Obama wins!!), we really want to be there for his walk down Pennsylvania Ave. Well, the hotels are not just damn expensive, but almost full up. I know enough that if you get a hotel too far out, it's a pain to get into D.C. so we booked a room at the Marriot Key Bridge which is just a couple of miles from the White House. We're starting to save now. If, God forbid, McCain wins (:puke: ), we can either cancel or just go anyway to give a big "FU" to him and George.

The moral: if you're even thinking about going to D.C., check the hotels now before it's too late.

1. I promised my 11 year old we'd go...
She has been begging me to take her to DC, but I told her we won't go until the idiot-in-chief is out of office. I did promise her that we'd go to Obama's inauguration though.

2. We live just north of DC in Rockville
I've got space saved for four friends (that includes babylonsister and evlbstrd) and, if people don't mind camping out in one of the two living rooms, we've got room for a few more. One of the reasons we got a big house was to have room available for others who come to the DC area. I'll be happy to open our home to put people up. I hope other DU'ers in the area can do the same.

13. DU'ers are like family
Why wouldn't we help them out or put them up? Back home in Kansas it wasn't unusual for us to have a full house. Whenever people came through town they always knew they had a place to stay. Over the past twenty years we've hosted everyone from AIM members to Republicans (friends of my brother :eyes: ).

The offer is genuine and will remain open until we don't think we can cram anyone else in. The only caveat is that we have three dogs (and we may have four by the end of this year). We've got a Lhasa, a Shih Tzu and a White German Shepherd. They love people and all of them think they are lap dogs.

9. I thought that would be foremost on people's minds
but I can't afford both so the inauguration takes precedence.

11. If I had my 'druthers, it would be DC, but I'm concerned, peacefully of course, about a
certain contingent of "Democrats" trying to create a public display of pressure in August.

12. DC, across the county and around the world
January 20, 2009 will be the greatest celebration in any of our memories. The United States will call the tune, and the world will dance their asses off! Friends of mine have been planning parties for four years!
So for those of us who can not make DC, I say worry not, this will be the day of days, the night of nights! This will be joy in the streets and the ringing of bells! It is a doubled celebration as in comes Obama and also, out goes Bushco!
Give the people what they want, and the party will raise our national roof! I know my city will be donning crazy hats and dreaming crazy dreams!

14. Wish I hadn't waited
I had thought about this awhile back. The better hotels have been full for months.
Seems the Marriots and almost everything else is full.

Found a room at the Red Roof Inn near Chinatown. Probably not so nice but little more than a mile from the Capital and the White House. Absurdly expensive but I've always wanted to be at an inauguration and what better one to attend than Barack Obama's.

Only problem is the parking garage is not open, hopefully will be resolved, otherwise we might have to take the train...which is probably also almost sold out.
