Clinton Did Not Inform Obama of Her Campaign "Suspension" - NO Joint Appearance Planned
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 10:21 AM by K Gardner
Obama Treads Gingerly Around Clinton

According to Politico, Obama found out Clinton was suspending her campaign the same way the rest of us did - from the media. Evidently there has been no phone call, no congratulations or acknowledgement from the Senator from New York to the Presumptive Democratic Nominee.

For days, Barack Obama did not step foot in public without praising Hillary Rodham Clinton. Even on Wednesday, less than 12 hours after Clinton delivered a defiant nonconcession speech with more than a few eyebrow-raising lines, Obama was still at it, extolling her history-making run.

But an awkward reality hung over what was supposed to be the first day of the general election campaign — even after news broke Wednesday evening that Clinton would be dropping out of the race Friday. Like a family groping to move past a feud, Obama appeared eager to make up and Clinton seemed to want little part of a public coming together.

She took the stage Wednesday at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference — minutes after Obama spoke from the same dais — and barely mentioned him, vouching only for his commitment to Israel. Associates elsewhere in Washington were floating her name for vice president, yet Clinton did not even acknowledge that most of the political world had conferred the presidential nomination on her opponent.

But even when news reports circulated early Wednesday evening that Clinton would drop out of the race Friday, the initial reaction was muted.

"No comment," said an Obama aide.

The Clinton campaign had not yet made contact with the Obama campaign, another aide said outside an evening fundraiser in Manhattan.

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
Top officials in both the Clinton and Obama campaigns say that -- at this point -- there are no plans of a joint Clinton-Obama appearance soon.

Despite the media frenzied reports of hand-holding and high fives, there is NO joint Clinton-Obama appearance planned for Saturday.

Saturday's event will be just Clinton and her supporters.

The Obama campaign feels it is appropriate for Saturday to be a moment for Clinton with her supporters.

Her driving the news cycles and dominating headlines is poison.

She will have another 72 hours and then it is fade to black and goodbye time.

5. I haven't even been able to watch the coverage. Rather than celebration of this HISTORIC moment,
it's all about Hillary/Bill/Hillary/VP.. any other person would have allowed him his success without having to be pried off the stage by party leaders and friends. The fact that she has yet to even call him to congratulate speaks VOLUMES about what is going on in her mind.

Hopefully next week, he can get some media attention; that is, if she doesn't have something else planned. It may be time for Hillary to take a vacation.

11. Same people who ran her campaign into the ground, I imagine. From reports, it seems
that Hillary was COMPLETELY taken aback by the reaction of the House and Senate Dems in the conference calls. Evidently she was so insulated in her echo chamber, she had "no idea" people were reacting to her in a negative manner. This shows, once again, complete lack of judgement and awareness, surely not fitting for anyone who wants to hold even the VP position. I'm glad Obama has put out that fire.

as well as CHelsea's future, and Bill's legacy.

Not too much more of this and we will be rid of the Clintons on the political scene.

In fact, it is questionable whether her India corporate outsourcing handers will even be able to pimp her influence in getting American jobs sent to India.

Why does Hillary need to be coddled so much. I'm glad a person like this will not be president.

27. I don't think the Clintons respect anyone but their "yes" men. Look at the quote below taken
from the NY Times article today about the superdelegates she lost:

After switching to Mr. Obama two weeks ago, the Clinton campaign bombarded her with dozens of calls, she said. “You can’t imagine how stressful this has been,” Ms. Arceneaux said. “It had gotten to where my life had just been taken over by this.”

Debbie Marquez, a superdelegate from Colorado, said she had made up her mind to shift to Mr. Obama, largely because he opposed the Iraq war from the start. The ex-president called and talked for 45 minutes, she said.

“When people talk about the finger wagging and lecturing in his speeches, I kind of felt that was going on over the phone,” Ms. Marquez said.

In the end, she was not swayed.

50. That's been my feeling. I suspect he let the SDs know it, too,
if quietly. He knew after IN that he had it won for sure, so he allowed her to run up her totals in KY, WV, etc., as he began his general election campaign. I thought it was very respectful to her--it allowed her a moment in the sun and let her build her myth--but she doesn't seem like she respects people who treat her with respect.

57. It's amazing to me that so many people want this woman to speak
for them. After eight years of Bush* and his appalling lack of diplomacy and style, we desperately need someone to turn our image around and exhibit good form. It was finally this thought that prompted me to decide to vote for Barack Obama. He has such dignity and a wonderful deportment.

For eight years now when confronted with something Bush* has said, I consistently respond, "He does not speak for me." I truly am starting to feel the same way about Hillary. I could not condone the words coming from her mouth or the poor form she exhibits as representative of what we Americans are looking for after the Bush* years.

Thank you for this thread, K Gardner.

58. She *did not* suspend her campaign of her own volition - her colleagues had to intervene
That's the disturbing part.

She really hasn't bought into the reality.

If whichever of her own advisors (methinks Carville) called in her congressional supporters had not done that, I still think she'd be holding the nation in suspense wondering "What does Hillary want?"

She is not fit to lead the nation, and she'd be a disaster at the #2 spot. Not with this self-serving, bunker mentality and needy, needy ego.

She's going to have to summon all her acting skills to make her suspension announcement seem sincere. I don't think she's feeling it now or if she ever will.

Of course, no one in the MSM is addressing these issues because they're trying to help shove her on the ticket for their own ratings value. I'm confident that the Obama team knows much better.
