Gerry Ferraro Wants Obama to Pay Clinton's Debt.
Ferraro wants Obama to pay Clinton’s debt
By Jordan Fabian
Posted: 06/05/08 12:42 PM
Geraldine Ferraro has a plan for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) to recoup her sizable campaign debt: Have Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) fundraisers pick up the tab.
After a long primary season, the Clinton campaign’s expenditures have far exceeded the amount of donations it has received so far, and the campaign has accumulated debt of more than $19 million, according to campaign finance reports. Much of that debt consists of unpaid salaries and bills to vendors.

When questioned about Clinton fundraisers being asked to join the Obama campaign, Ferraro told The Hill, “These are the people raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would hope that would do the same thing with his fundraisers to pay off Hillary’s debt.”

Ferraro, a former Democratic congresswoman from New York and the Democrats’ 1984 vice presidential candidate, strongly supported Clinton and raised funds for her.

This election, losing candidates have asked for contributions to retire their campaigns debt. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.), and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) are engaged in such campaigns and have found help from other candidates.

Ferraro resigned from her position on Clinton’s national finance committee in March after making comments suggesting Obama’s success is due to his being black.

Ferraro said she has not been asked to raise funds for the Obama campaign.

109. Losers don't have the right to expect anything from the victor---
and Hillary's political supporters are definitely going to come out on the losing end of the bargain.

Their association with Hillary and endorsement of her strategies will be remembered.

She and Bill tried to lynch him, and now they want him to reimburse them for the rope??

small donations by folks who are very committed to him. This is a smart tactic as now he isn't beholden to powerful forces and can fight for the people!

Crazy Gerry threatened Obama saying he better not "piss her off" because he might need her to help him with her amazing fund-raising skills. Well, if she's so good in that department, let her raise funds for her good friend. I'm sorry, but HRC is the one who decided to prolong this process, mismanaged her funds along the way, and has engaged in behavior detrimental to the party. Obama would be a fool to give her money the he needs for the GE.

135. You stole my line
Except that I would add that my debts includes millions of dollars spent publicly trashing Gerry. Sure, people of reason begged me to stop my antics against Gerry and yet I continued for months, weakening her ability to perform in her job. But now that others have stepped in and forced me to stop, I think that it would be rude of Gerry if she didn't pick up the bill for me attempting to ruin her career and the good work that she was doing.

If Gerry doesn't pay my debt, I'll have the thousands of people who have bought into my slanderous rants and media blasts against her and make sure that she fails in the work that she is doing. If she was a decent person who deserves the support--not the wrath--of my followers, then she'll pay my debts.

This is not extortion nor craven. This is just attempting to get Gerry to do the right thing. If she was a magnanimous person, a deserving person, she would gladly pay for my smears against her.

I hate to be so cynical but for such passionate Primaries where you claim you have the women's vote (50% of the country yadada) and the establishment and doctors, lawyers, nurses, gays, bluebloods (Koryne's words not mine), how no money? This makes no sense. I scrimped and saved to send Obama money because I wanted him to win that passionately. Clinton supporters believed just as passionately and have just as much money, especially considering the huge threats demanding refunds from the DLC. Something isn't adding up.

69. Wasn't fundraising Ferraro's job?
Ferraro was a member of the finance committee when she was a part of the campaign. Looking at all the red on the books of the campaign. Clearly Clinton's finance team dropped the ball somewhere. Clearly some of the poor decisions they made, like not setting aside money for the post Super Tuesday campaign, relying on big money donors and 527s, trying to match Obama's spending dollar for dollar, and not acting early to build a list of small donors that could be tapped, are the reason why the campaign is in so much debt.

So basically this woman made a mess in her last job, and now she wants US to fix things?

I'm not saying we shouldn't help Clinton pay off her campaign debt, but I am saying I can't believe that Ferraro of all people had the gall to ask for it.

Even if they have to eat that entire debt, they are still lightyears ahead of the most in terms of accumulated wealth AND the ability to accumulate more.

debts to the vendors and service providers still awaiting settlement around the country. Those are folks who shouldn't get stiffed for providing those services to a Democrat.

The top campaign staff who are into her for hundreds of thousands and even millions can hold a bake sale. I they've got verifiable receipts for expenses paid out of pocket for the campaign's needs I guess I could even go that far. But nada for their salaries and billable hours.

with Obama holding a fundraiser to raise money to pay back the vendors Hillary screwed, as long as every penny above that particular part of her debt went to the Obama campaign.
