Where is AL GORE???
Just wondering, after all the talking heads said that he is the grand old man/leader/peace-maker etc etc and would move with Pelosi, Reid and Dean after the primaries ended. How come we have heard absolutely NOTHING from him these last few days? He was not even a co-signer of the letter demanding the SDs to endorse by Friday.

Or have I missed his endorsement?

He is such a shining light in the party that his endorsement now will make a big difference. The longer he waits, the more irrelevant it becomes.

6. Ya know, FUNNY thing you should mention that.
After people like Mondale switched over to Obama I was wondering..."Ok, isn't Gore going to show up now?" Nope. I read an article yesterday where he stated clearly that he did not want any place in Obama's campaign or administration.

I'm not 100% sure I know all there is to know about Al Gore. You would think he woulda tossed his hat in for Obama by now.

  You'd think, anyway.

17. As I stated above
Obama was very critical of the Clinton admininstration, in which Gore played a very active part. He also said that only the Republicans were the "party of ideas" in the 1990s. If I were Al Gore, I don't think it would be easy to warm to a candidate who made those remarks. Just my thoughts.

26. I see your conclusion as a reasonable one, but politicians are generally....
..flexible in cases like this. I don't think that would be enough for Gore not to want to associate himself with the Obama campaign.

Especially given the focus restoring the environment that Obama has comitted to.

As with all things, I am sure there are lots of other interactions and details which we are not privvy to so I have to admit ignorance on why this particular relationship hasn't taken off as one might have thought.

37. Yes, and I think Gore is the magnanimous type
But I also wish Obama hadn't said those things. Among other things, it will be campaign fodder for McCain (the fact that Obama said Republicans had all the ideas in the 90's). Unfortunately, he also lashed out at the Clinton administration during the infamous "bitter small town" speech. Well, a lot of things were said on the campaign trail that might have been left better unsaid. On all sides.

25. He's being a statesman and defering to the Clinton's
I don't have a problem with it personally, he played a very large role in the Clinton administration and probably feels he owes some respect to the Clinton's in that regard.

Beyond that, he was soured by the way the press treated him in 2004 when he came out for Dean and probably didn't want to go through that again and put himself in a very awkward situation.

He'll be on board, he's a true Democrat, through and through.

But, during this crucial political time, I would have appreciated at least some sort of political
guidance for the American voters. Unless we can get a Democrat elected, none of the environment issues has a chance to be solved.

I voted for Gore in 2000 and would have this time had he been the candidate.

67. I was just with Al Gore last Saturday, and this subject was raised
He said that while he was totally focused on environmental issues,
he was also perfectly aware that those issues would be largely
ignored by a McCain administration. Howard Dean, standing next to
Gore, mentioned that McCain had given some lip service to the
environment, but that considering the Republican complete neglect
of the issue during the Cheneybush administration, that THAT was
one VERY low bar to clear. Gore said that he would be speaking up more
when the primaries were resolved. He didn't come out and say it in
so many words, but I'd bet that we'll be hearing from him before Denver,
and in no uncertain terms. Like Howard, he is now a party man. When the
party has spoken, so will he. A guy in the room asked Gore why we had not
heard more from him up to now. Gore said it was a fair question, but said
that he was not interested in taking the side of one Democrat against another
(he would have bombed on GDP). I do not think that he will remain silent for
very long. If he gets a prime slot in Denver, I'm betting that he makes the
hall tremble under the feet of all present--as will Obama when he accepts.
