McCain Raised $21.5 million in May

CBS News has learned that John McCain raised $21.5 million in May, his best fund-raising month of the campaign. He will report having $31.5 million cash-on-hand.

Barack Obama's fundraising numbers for May are not yet available. At the end of April he had $36.9 million cash-on-hand available for the general election.

3. While it's too bad that Sen. Clinton forced us to blow so much cash through April and May,
we can still keep our edge, I think. I'll be sending him more next paycheck.

8. Not blown so much
it was still effective advertising for the general. While the extended primary has its downsides it did let everyone (other than the very lowest information voters) get to know Obama better.

I hope his May $ numbers are good. I expect June will be huge.

We are going to have to spend that numbskull into oblivion as he will have the entire MSM at his beck and call.

Donate. Today. Tomorrow. Next week. Then repeat.

Obama's money edge

Jeanne Cummings does the math:

• If each of Obama’s donors gave him a modest $250, he’d have $375 million to spend during the two-month general election sprint. That’s $186 million a month, $47 million a week.

• During the same September to Nov. 4 period, McCain will have about $85 million to spend, since he has decided to take taxpayer money to help finance his campaign activities.

• The Republican National Committee, which is charged with closing the gap between McCain and Obama, has $40 million in cash. Obama raised almost as much — $31 million — from just his small donors in the month of February. His total for the month, $57 million, exceeded the RNC’s cash balance.

• Obama has more than 1.5 million donors; McCain has a few hundred thousand. If just a million of Obama’s donors sent him the maximum donation, $2,300, he could raise $2.3 billion.

29. Don't feel bad
I only send $15 monthly, this time I sent $20 and they only accepted $15. I laughed because it just showed they understood that this was what I could afford and I appreciated that. Well, they may have just made a mistake but I prefer my other idea more. :D

30. i confess
i don't understand the whole taxpayer money thing. if a candidate accepts gov money, can s/he then accept donations from the public? or does it mean that s/he can't accept lobby money or have huge fundraisers? any clarification is appreciated! (sorry if this is remedial...)

23. McCain would only be "catching up" if Obama raised less than $21.5 million in May
Otherwise, he'd just be falling further behind.

24. Not true.
What matters is cash-on-hand and debts.

For example, if Obama raised 40 million in May and spent 40 million it doesn't matter that he raised more than 21.5 million.

26. Obama has already spent a lot of money making himself known.
That's something that needs to be taken into account. The hard fought campaign in PA almost guarantees that it'll stay blue now.
