It looks like the action in this forum is pretty much over.
While the forum is more interesting when in primaries mode and not in the off-season politics mode, the rest could be for the better. It could be 8 years until we go into the primary frenzy again. Hard to believe, huh?

2. Thank God.
Rove and Bush are still free. Our media is still corrupt. Global warming is probably dooming us. Blackwater is still unfettered.

There is much still to be done. Will be nice for people to get some perspective again.

7. I'm sure there will be more Vetters and Larry Craigs too
But you are right. The real problems are still there. We need to muster the same otrage we had for each others primary opponants and direct it back onto bushco.

3. Oh just wait until people bring up gay rights in the fall
They're usually told to shut up, don't scare moderate voters away and don't bring their issues up until after the election :puke:

6. I'll be seriously pissed if that happens.
Nevermind Obama's not endorsing same-sex marriage....there are two discriminatory anti-gay marriage amendments on the ballots in California and Florida. To his credit, Obama has come out in opposition to those amendments. I don't want to hear any bullshit about how our rightful demands for equality is going to cost us the White House. As we had to hear in 2004.

Of course, some WILL tell us to be good, quiet little homos and dykes until after the election. It will be, for some, a message to just continue and wait and put up with your second class citizenship and maybe someday you'll get those rights.

8. I remember that from 2004 as well.
I was a little surprised, to say the least, to encounter that type of attitude here. I guess that every so often we get reminded that not everyone in the Democratic party is as progressive and as committed to social justice we'd like them to be, and it can be really ugly to get those reminders.

It's by no means a "solved" issue this time around, but I think in 2008 Democrats are a little more willing to make a stand on these types of issues than they were in 2004. In 2004 a lot of us were much more easily cowed than we are today, and perhaps less willing to adopt an attitude where we can't do anything to make "swing voters" (read: "Reagan Democrats") feel uncomfortable.

I really rue the day that the Democratic party apparatus decided that it was more important to try and coddle the swing vote than to stand up for its own principles. I would really like to see that end in my lifetime.

11. As the loving brother of a happily married gay man, I can tell you ...
that if anyone tells my ex-fighter pilot, black belt wearing little brother or his partner to shut up and be good little queers, the speaker will likely end up swallowing a few teeth. I'm with you terrya. Enough is enough. (And interestingly enough, my brother and his partner stay with my wife, two sons and I whenever they are in the area. My marriage has not been threatened and neither of my boys has developed an affinity for show tunes, so perhaps the haters can put that particular line of bullshit to rest.)
