3. Maybe he'll just educate them that it's no big deal.
$50 digital/analog converter box (often with a $40 rebate).

$10 and you're all set.

6. Actually, digital should be better than analog.
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 11:04 AM by MercutioATC
Analog receivers get serious signal degradation near the range limit. Digital receivers have software that corrects for the weaker signal, providing a better picture at the edge of a coverage area.

It's a digital signal.

10. Most likely.
http://www.antennaweb.org will tell you exactly what channels you can receive with which type of antenna for any address in the U.S.

13. I know someone who hooked one up
with rabbit ears and started pulling in stations he could never get before. He said it was a great signal booster.

8. Good clarification.
It's a digital, rather than analog, signal.

That doesn't mean the the signal for a given channel will have HD content.

9. The switch to digital was already delayed
People in rural areas can get the vouchers for a converter box just like everybody else. If they're too rural then they can't get broadcast TV anyway.

There's nothing to be upset about. The government wants the spectrum back, so analog broadcast TV is going bye bye. Everybody can get a box or two for free.

18. Maybe we should emphasis what is going to happen with the analog channels.

They are going to first responders: police, fire, etc.

Or do you consider keeping your fuzzy reception more important than fighting American-hating terrorists? Have you always hated America? Or just since you found out that your terrorist buddies support lousy TV reception?

Actually, contrary to what everyone on here is saying, you are going to have problems. Yes, digital provides a stronger, clearer signal. 90% of the time. But when it doesn't come in quite right, it doesn't come in at all. You don't get a slightly fuzzy signal. You get crap.

So you can forget watching TV on rainy days.

On the other hand, on rainy days you can always disconnect the converter and use your TV as a police scanner! Add in a six pack of beer and a bug zapper then who needs American Idol?
