I apologize
Sorry about that stupid SUV thread.

It's no excuse but my rationalization is that I just got home from work and riding a bike in 100 degree weather does bad things to your brain.

Bad things man.

3. Oh really?
If that is the right place, I'd hate to see the wrong one.

5. Yeah.
If he starts a thread on republicans and people who drive to slow in the fast lane, I wouldn't get upset about that either.

6. Nope, I wouldn't have a problem with that.
Just that saying So&So's supporters = dumb is not good for "unity."

4. So why are you riding a bike in 100 degree temps?
I assume you are a young guy and still thinks of yourself as invincible as young people tend to do. Still, exercising in the heat like that, no matter what your age, is not wise. I remember a kid on my high school football team who had a heart attack in practice at the ripe old age of 18 during a heat wave.

7. I was going home from work
I was using a bike because, well, most of the time it's a much better way to get around than using an automobile.

I ain't young and I sure as hell ain't invincible. The Devil's Corkscrew taught me that I had limits:

9. Hiked, not biked
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 05:02 PM by taterguy
It wasn't bad going down but getting back up it was a struggle

(Edited to remove a possibly offensive word)

I'm impressed that you worked a "possibly offensive word" into your answer!

17. It's a word that rhymes with "Ditch"
Have you ever hiked a canyon? The signs say to give yourself twice as much time to get out as it takes to go down. I thought the signs were a joke. I barely made it back before dark.

21. I've hiked a few. Mostly unofficial trails...
My friend's wire cutters have created quite a few new recreation areas in the Southern California region. I'm always really unsteady going down but I have a lot of leverage coming up--last to the bottom, first to the top.

11. Riding a bicycle is not an option for many people and not practical for many
at certain times as you spoke about riding a bike in that weather. I have been a long time advocate of free basic public transportation for all and I think it's time municipalities started putting it on the table. I believe some of our cities have started some programs like this. I think Portland Oregon has free public transportation, but don't quote me as I haven't looked it up. I think though it's time has come.

14. I totally agree
Public transportation for all. Not only is it a good idea, it's a damned good idea.

20. About Portland, Oregon, here's a quick google
from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportation_in_Portland,_Oregon

I think this is a prototype that could be improved and expanded on.

22. Portland, OR has limited free transportation--
a "fareless square" that encompasses downtown and one of the lightrail (MAX) lines that runs from Lloyd Center (a shopping mall) to downtown.:)

23. It's a start.
I posted a link to wikipedia above that explains their transportation system at large. I know people from Portland who are pretty happy about it.

12. I can dig it
It's a life risk to ride a bike these days. Drivers are incredibly hostile to bikers, especially drivers in large vehicles. I'll never understand why.

15. Motorists are hostile for a simple reason: Because they can be
Almost everybody has a little pent up aggression in them and a tiny minority take out their aggression on easy targets.

Fortunately, I was clever enough to be born a rather large disturbed-looking male so I've never had any real problems.

As far as I know, no one has ever done anything on purpose that put me in danger. If anyone's ever thrown anything at me they missed and I didn't notice.

16. Maybe it's a Texas thing
What chunks me, was when I used to ride to the babysitter's house with my toddler in one of those bike seats. People literally tried to run me off the road.

Feh, whatevs. Good for you for riding a bike. :)
