I implore everyone who is uneasy with the idea of voting for Obama to attend one of his rallies. I did last week, and it was one of the most memorable days in my life.
First, the diversity in the crowd is enough to move mountains. All colors of the rainbow were in attendance as well as every type of economical demographic possible. They were in all sizes too (I'm extra large, ladies ;) )! Thousands upon thousands of people in a rainbow coalition hugging, laughing and a few even crying on each other. Even if this man loses, the possibilities with this type of amalgamation is endless. Even if he's not the right man, the fact we're all taking a stand together can make anyone a believer. Some day, this train is going to go somewhere and we're all going to be on it together.
Secondly, seeing him talk on TV and the interwebs doesn't do him justice. And he doesn't always need a teleprompter, either. He can raise and lower the crowd's enthusiasm just by vocal inflection and emphasis. To see him speak, up close, allowed me to read his face and match it to his words. I don't believe he will deliver us from evil into the grasslands of salvation, but I do think he believes in what he's laying out before us. Yes, he's a politician, but every now and again, a good one comes along... It might even make you think it's too good to be true.
Plus if you get up front, you might get a nifty "CHANGE" cardboard poster which will definitely be worth something on Ebay in the future.
Look, I am the last person to pander for someone's vote. If people out there don't want to vote for Obama and stay at home, or go to McCain out of spite... Eh, fuck em. No apologies. I also believe that some supposed Democrats wary about an Obama presidency on here are probably anything but Democrats and closer to something that lives under a bridge (if this is you, by all means go fuck yourself - you're going to lose in November). But I'm convinced if some are truly on the fence and find themselves at odds with what they're going to do on Election Day, give going to a rally beforehand a shot. You might be surprised. You might even get a terrorist knucklebump or a handshake out of a future president. I know I did. :D
