C'mon GD:P'ers! Your lasting memory of this site.
Good times, bad times, I know I had my share. I don't think we'll have the wild ride, again, quite like 08. It's the last night. Revel in what you experienced. Testify! This is it! Your best/worst moment?

27. I was a mod during the 2004...and it was just as wicked, with the warring
factions. Only that time it was Dean supporters V. Kerry supporters. I was a Dean supporter but, back then, we were supposed to keep clear of flamewars (which I still think should be the rule) and also not be super public about where our support went... I did so well that people frequently accused me of having an anti-Dean bias. It was so much the same as now...down to the starting of new forums by members who had left over the anger.

8. Best moment was when HRC finally conceded. Worst was when one of her boosters here went on a lying
streak about me, full well knowing I had her on *ignore*. Someone not even a member of DU, just lurking, who had my private e-mail address contacted me about what was going on. Other posters were telling her to stop, but it turns out she's a well-known bully/serial liar on DU with a smarmy fan club. I must assume that at some point a mod was made aware of what she was doing and put a stop to it (thank you anonymous mod!).

Other than that, it's been a blast!

or another thread. Actually, it fits me quite well -- Drama, Debating, Honoria clubs in High School, had the female lead in the Senior Class play, "A Man Called Peter". I was also voted the Most Sophisticated in my senior class. Me and Vincent Damiano, a tall, handsome football player. We had our photograph in the North Miami High School Yearbook for 1956 -- standing beside a Cadillac El Dorado convertible.

but that time The Magistrate mooned someone stands out, as does the time when all the Biden supporters threatened to withhold their votes if Dodd became the nominee. Good times. Good times.

Every night, as I lived and died by this primary, I made a lot of friends, a damn good amount of enemies and had a wonderful time. Sometimes, I would awake the next morning thinking " I know nothing about these posters, yet , I sense I know them". A strange feeling. I'm new to all this expressing emotions by typing, but at the same time, I learned much. Thanks for the great times and I look forward to taking the White House back in November. And, working with all of you, to make sure this happens.

all the pro-Hillary Clinton posts that cited right wing sources to support their arguments. It left me speechless with dismay at the cognitive dissonence.

On the other hand, since I had studiously avoided GD-P for months and only started lurking in late April, I was pleased to discover that most of the DUers who were supporting Obama were DUers I already liked and appreciated and respected from long before this primary season.

The Hillary supporters, not so much.

Best: Finding common ground and connecting with posters I never had before, even though we supported different candidates.

Very Best: Making new friends and seeing the really terrific side of posters I never noticed before.

Worst: The necessity of putting people I once respected on ignore after seeing incredibly ugly sides of them.

Absolute worst: being called racist, freeper, traitor, crazy, delusional by people who are supposed to be part of the same party.

There were more wedge issues and a lot more preaching here than in 2004.

One memory would be some of the responses to a post about Obama leading a Canadian poll. Freepy comments like “they speak French” which normally would be weird for DU but were not all that unusual here during this primary. Amidst the rumble there were still some great commentary and candidate photo posts by supporters.

My favorite memory though is still the previous primary, the night everyone changed their avatars to Joe Lieberman.

When a good number of us turned the Elton John fund raiser in NY into the Reverend Wright scandal...

Some people took it seriously.

Good times.

All at once, the antagonizers became the apologists and were trying everything possible to stop the (most obvious) bullshit we were throwing up against the wall... Just to see what would stick.

It got to a point where I had to tell some people, you're ruining my good time if you keep refuting my crap with facts. Kind of funny to see when the shoe is on the other foot with regards to how people acted during Reverend Wright PASTORGATE 08 Super Bullshit Extravaganza.

Ah, the memories.

52. Dammit, now I wish GD:P never ended
The other day I was thinking about that thread when we started posting just parts of the quote and people wanted the full quote, so we started bolding the pieces we wanted in the full quote like the rest of it didn't matter. I was called the "R" word at least three times. Sadly, the evidence is deleted.

And then when compared next to Pastorgate. Man, the fucking irony.

The sig line disappeared for a few days, as I remember it. :D

64. Here are a couple
Funny Moments
1) Somebody responding to a point about Obama's qualities remarked that it was such a good point it "might even get FrenchieCat to get off the fence"

2) A departed one always taking the spin two spins too far until the classic case where he argued the Wyoming landslide for Obama was a great moral victory for Clinton because it was microscopically less than the landslide she had absorbed in other neighboring states.

3) An unfortunate poster early calling of a primary lead to a lengthy whipping as the lead shrank slowly but surely to a few thousand votes only to be followed up the next day with a similar post with a problem in math.

For me the high point were the many very thoughtful essays and the funny quips tucked into threads.

Also "TheVoiceOfReason" finding the 2 delegate advantage in Mississippi showed what unusual talents hang around here.

I remember getting back from Omaha after the Springsteen show ( March 14) on a huge high. Little did I know, that Obama was in the middle of his biggest crisis: The Rev. Wright. I got on DU and saw your reports on the Iowa delegates. Obama took it, gave the speech three days later & as they say, the rest is history. You kept us going on some dark days. Thanks!

starting with 'falling into' this very passionate, bouncing off the wall humorous, devastating, sometimes chilling

No current memories of worst moments. It comes with age, i hear.

Again, I am anything but homophobic or a bigot, but you went out of your way to try and prove it. FAIL. MISERABLY. Don't expect to insult someone as you did and get away with it.

And a thread from January, no less. We had been through months of McClurkin; I had stated repeatedly I thought Obama was wrong, and got sick of the constant, neverending crap spewed on this board about something that no one could control and was history. But keep cherry-picking if it soothes you.

119. My impressions
Worst:
Too many people willing to argue absolute nonsense. Thats basically it. (But also quite to be expected of any forum on the net)

Best:
Being welcomed warmly even though I am not a US citizen and therefore not having a direct stake in this fight.
Working the numbers with people like Phrigndmass and grancart.
Reading anything by H2Oman, grantcart, Nance - and a lot of other very interesting stuff. Been inspired a lot and learned quite a bit in my relatively short ride here. Stuff that I will take with me.
Getting a look into the grassroot level of the opposition to the current administration - something that is not visible at all in the coverage we get over here.
Coming to believe that things will be corrected.

Got several worsts though:
The constant accusation of "-isms".
A certain poster who spammed every single anti-Hillary or pro-Obama thread with the same pages long resume of Senator Clinton's accomplishments.
The obvious freeper / operation chaos trolls (actually, they were kinda funny).
The rampant nationalism that the Rev Wight debacle highlighted.

126. It's just been such an experience
Best: When Edwards endorsed Obama and people flipped out for him not allowing HRC to bask in her WV victory.

Worst: Geraldine Ferraro and the defense of her comments along with a general influx of racism. I'm glad that I didn't refer any of my African American friends to DU, because I'd feel bad to have exposed them to another venue for such filth, especially from supposed liberals. Clinton camp's inability to cope with losing by means other than trashing the legitimacy of the processes (i.e. Calender, caucuses, proportional allocation of delegates)

Funniest: Wipeout, shitgate, EltonJohngate, Compound Rounding, the great Boycott.

A virtual party broke out here, among the O crowd at least. And the funny (or sad) part was how many of us were here at 10 p.m. EST or so waiting for that poll to be released.

135. Oddest moment
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 07:27 AM by Asgaya Dihi
I'd guess was a couple of days ago. Someone posted something and I questioned what they meant by it. They took real offense to the wording of the question and went off the deep end with me.

Small problem. The wording was theirs, it was a term they'd used in the post I was replying to and when I asked what they meant by it I'd guess they forgot that part. When we're so far gone that we find our own words offensive when questioned about what we mean it's really time for a break.

Worst was probably finding that in spite of my efforts I was getting short tempered and letting things get to me too.

Best I'd guess was a couple of conversations with Clinton supporters in the middle of the rage everyone seemed to feel when we both settled down into a polite, productive chat where we shared opinions and reasons and had the luck to do it between us without anyone jumping in to ruin it. That went a long way toward helping to step back from the developing temper. For them too I'd hope.

138. There was a thread in which...
There was a thread in which another DUer and I were discussing the relative merits of Sen.'s Clinton and Obama-- an almost clinical discussion, looking at it only through the perspective of Machiavellian politics. It had even struck me at the time how oddly antiseptic the thread was for a time-- as though to androids were chatting with each other.

Another poster decides to jump in and beings to ballistic over one of the candidate-- the kind of posts that make you envision a throbbing vein on the side of the poster's temple.

...and the OPer and I never respond to our Johnny-Come-Lately. Not once. And that sets this new guy off even worse to the point where he said he would "beet you sinceless" (sic). From where I sat, there was just no reason to humor this guy or lead him on-- who would argue with a cartoon character, right?

The sheer absurdity of it was amazing.

And now I kinda realize the reason for the electoral college....

Worst moment was my stalker, who claimed to know all about me. Petty BS.

They'd get some dumb idea over there and then he'd come post it here.

142. It was like being in high school
dominated by a particularly nasty clique of kool kids. Some tried to defend their candidate based on rational arguments about the issues.

But mostly it was a gang mentality dominated by bullies (and their new friends who came in for a "work-study" program) who basically ended up doing their candidate a disservice by sullying the good record of the Democratic Party and treating other Democrats badly.

I was talking about one of the Hillary disruptor forums. Urbalsoft said that I should talk and I should be careful. He never explained what he meant by that, but I kept talking.

Best: Emptying out my Ignore list after the NC and IN primaries, then watching all the flame wars I'd been missing just for their entertainment value.

160. GD:P
good, bad and ugly, this contentious forum reflected accurately what is at stake.

Insults, insights, trashing, trolling, denying, defending, believing, extolling, extrapolating....

At least it was real, unlike all the smirking punditry and sound bites on TV.

We are in a fight for our lives. It's a battle, not chit chat across the fence.
