1. She's voting McCain because she is worried about Obama rolling back Bush's tax cuts
She says 200,000 isn't a lot of money. Increased Taxes will hurt small business owners.

Will vote McCain because they have 5 votes on the Supreme Court now so what does it matter?
They can overturn Roe now if they wanted to. She doesn't think they will do it, but it is possible. The next couple of appointments won't change anything. We are stuck with a right wing court "probably for the rest of my life" so she's putting two other things on top of that: Economy and Security.

13. "I am very much worried about raising taxes to the extent that Obama plans to raise taxes. I don't
think it's a good thing to do in an economic downturn such as we have now"

NPR: "Now Now senator Obama has said that he would roll back the Bush tax cut. Is that what you mean in terms of personal taxes?"

LeBey: "Yes I do and I'll tell you the reason why. Because when he talks about taxing people over 200000 dollars a year, you know we think that it's well to do. But it isn't well to do. And so many of those people are small business owners. If they start taxing those people we're going to lose more jobs, not create jobs."

55. I thougth that argument was bullshit for two reasons
1. Anthony Kennedy voted to uphold Roe in 1992. It is not at all obvious that he would vote to reverse it today. If a challenge to Roe v. Wade came to the Court today, they might very well vote 5-4 to uphold it.

2. If the next president wins a second term, Antonin Scalia will be 80 at the end of that term. While there are three liberals who are likely to retire before he does, if he was replaced by a liberal justice it would make a meaningful change to the composition of the Court.

Really everything that lady said was bullshit, but the SCOTUS comments were particularly inane.

35. A little googling on Ms. LeBay - VERY INTERESTING.
$200K/year isn't well-to-do? And then in the next breath she admits that Clinton & Obama have almost identical tax plans. McCain's an environmentalist? McCain's worked both sides of the aisle? She's showing her ignorance by her comments on the Supreme Court. She obviously has no idea how it works - she thinks they can just pick any topic and rule on it at whim. Pretty ironic since she's a former judge.

This just wasn't making much sense to me. So I decided to google the author from Atlanta and here's just a few of her vitriolic statements - she's a piece of work and I'm ashamed for NPR for interviewing her. I found quite a few disgusting posts by her, here are just two:

In response to the post "Not Feeling the Oprah Love" she explained that obviously Oprah is racist since she was supporting Obama:
163.December 7th,2007, 10:35 pm
Why do we tolerate racism on the part of blacks? Oprah has never endorsed a candidate for president before, and suddenly she is going to the nth degree for one, a black man. Am I the only one who sees this for what it is? Obama is inexperience and we desperately need someone who has a good mind, a lot of experience and the support of a good staff and cabinet. Hillary Clinton fits those requirements. Obama doesn’t. We all know that. If he is nominated, the Democrats will lose the White House, just when they have a real shot at it. Puleez, stop this leftist mentality that will surely mean a landslide victory for any Republican candidate. Oprah is not the person to follow in this very important election. She is overstepping her bounds and it is racist, no doubt about it.
— Posted by Barbara LeBey

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/07/not-feeling-the-oprah-love/

On Huffington Post she writes under the name mvpeach10 (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/users/profile/mvpeach10)- here's her lastest post there:
I'm a Hillary supporter who doesn't want her to be the VP. Why? Because if she is, Obama wins. That's the last thing I want. I want him to lose. I want him to lose big. Why? Because he 1. is inexperienced, 2. arrogant, 3. has shown poor judgment, 4. has a questionable ideology, 5. has a wife who is an Obamanation!, 6. is favored by the Muslims including Hamas, 7. has remained in that church for 20 years, 8. has ties to Rezko and Ayres, 9. is a pushover for rogue nation leaders, and 10. has a socialist platform that will cause the economy to sink further into a hole.

As for a VP for him, what does it matter. He can't win. Why? Because most of us, Hillary supporters, will never vote for him, and the blue collar workers in the big states won't vote for him.

The best winning combination would be a McCain/Hillary ticket. I know--I'm dreaming, but it would be change for real, a way to bring our country together and to govern from the center, with a back turned to the extremes of either party, the ones who are the most intolerant, vicious, sanctimonious, and troublesome. I know...it'll never happen. posted 05/30/2008 at 19:40:37

She's vindictive, racist and immature. Oh, and with her book sales I see why she's so scared of Obama - she might have to pay taxes again! Oh no!

I guess we should all just be glad she's no longer a judge?

:eyes:

Jewish voters who are in the Obama camp need to think long and hard about his long time affiliations with the antisemitic pastor of his church who praises one of the most outspoken Jew haters, Louis Farrakhan, and in Virginia, Congressman Joe Moran who blames Israel for the Iraq war and is an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Obama now needs Jewish votes, so he is trying to distance himself from these affiliations, but I would be very suspect of his true motivations, and, more importantly, what will guide him if he were to be elected and no longer needed the Jewish voters. Who do you think he will favor, his church pastor, the many other anti Israel supporters or the Jewish voters he needed to beat a sincere supporter of Jewish interests, Hillary Clinton? Haven’t we all learned the lessons of the past, that changes in rhetoric made during elections to get votes are not trustworthy?

MY MESSAGE TO OBAMA

Obama you don’t understand the American people. We are not an embittered and failed people. Therefore, unlike your pastor, Reverend Wright, we do not ask God to damn America. Without any help from you, we have created the most enlightened, prosperous and fundamentally decent society the world has yet seen. And we’re free. Individually and as a nation we have done more than anyone to improve the human condition. Not only here but all around the world, we have fed the poor, cured the sick and protected the weak.

We have opened not only our pocketbooks but our borders to the world's needy and desperate, often to our own detriment. We have built great universities and invited students from other societies to come to America and learn.

Despite our own imperfections and those of the people we are trying to help, we have improved the educational and economic status of racial minorities with benefits and preferences that go far beyond equal opportunity.

American innovation is real and deeply rooted. Our system of government was built by people of extraordinary wisdom. Our prosperity was created by the grit and exceptional intelligence of many generations who have in each case sought to put more back into America than they take out.

Although the ranks of Tom Brokaw's "greatest generation" of Americans now grow thin, they have successors among younger Americans of the same heroic and productively responsible ilk, our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Who are you, Mr. Obama? What it is that you have done for America? What is it that qualifies you to lead our great nation in a world where the stakes are high and everyone plays for keeps? You claim to have a special "international" status. You say that we should shed our parochial ways and follow your lead. But to whose advantage?
Callow, glib and slick won’t cut it, Mr. Obama. Even when intentions are good, we have now learned that the White House is not the place for on-the-job training. Bush taught us that.

You are a superficially charming and bright young man. But there are a lot of people with those attributes. A random sample of 10,000 would probably reveal that more than one in 10 are by demonstrated judgment, competence, integrity and accomplishment better qualified to be president than you.

But you, not they, have the baton and are running for your party's nomination. In November — when the chips are down — you will also be the ideal candidate for the kids who haven’t a clue yet. They are the giant toddlers who are intent on taking out of America more than they put in. They are already mortgaged to the hilt, borrow from their parents (and even their grandparents, for goodness sake) and can't wait for the old folks to die. They are anxious for you to "change" America to make sponging even easier.

You and your handlers would no doubt be happy to accommodate their desires in exchange for their liberties as well as ours. Some voters may be willing to make that trade, until America's economic engine is stopped and the last bit of our seed corn and savings has been consumed — but most adults are not.

64. Wow - I missed her blog - check out this post from 6/1:
Maybe if Obama loses because so many of us will not vote for him, maybe then this rampant sexism will be addressed and stopped. Blacks have marched, threatened, protested, and even rioted. They succeeded. Obama's candidacy is proof of that. We can no longer be silent. We too must make our voices heard.

What racism!! I know she hides it behind her feminist views, but it's there, no doubt about it.

Then I scrolled down to the post you referenced - :wow:

And donated to Kerry in 04.

67. Check out her posts all over the web - she makes it quite clear what her intentions are.
She's not "might" anything.

63. The supreme court will be right-wing for the rest of my life"? What?

She said there were 5 right-wing justices there now -- some would argue 4 1/2, at least on some issues...

3 of those are over age 70.

She could have a court that favors democrats in a few years, let alone in her lifetime.

Given the more recent trend toward appointing younger justices, to take over the court, her McCain vote could ensure her prediction.

All she does it quote talking points from the Hillary campaign. She is stuck between intellectual gears, unable to say anything that sounds as if it's an opinion she formulated herself.

68. I suspect that it's the end-game of Operation Chaos
Pretend to be a Clinton supporter to divide the party. Then retreat back to McCain taking with them as many real Clinton supporters as possible.

They've even created websites:
http://justsaynodeal.com
http://clintons4mccain.com

And you're helping.

Based on everything that has now been turned-up about
LeBey, you must be very conflicted. Perhaps an apology
to DU would be in order?

71. This LeBey character is very obviously an exceedingly unintelligent person.
That much is very obvious. What job(s) she may have held in her lifetime make nary a jot of difference.
