Question: Will the GD: P Forum archives be accessible after Wednesday at noon?

I am wondering if what we say in this forum (archived threads -- and even locked threads) will be able to be accessed, or will the entire forum go away?

There are a few things I might like to save to my journal or possibly print and keep for my personal memoirs.

If this subject has been discussed and I haven't seen the answer, kindly direct me to the proper OP.

Thanks so much -- I'm on deadline for a couple of important emails and could use your help.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

13. Yes, it was witty -- and shitty at the same time. :-)
You've given me a new word for my vocabulary.

I can't wait for a chance to use it in a sentence.

12. It's an Archaeology Term : Fossilized Human Dung
They found these up in Oregon, and are using the mtDNA to establish when the Clovis people arrived in Oregon, by comparing it with current populations.

DNA from Pre-Clovis Human Coprolites in Oregon, North America
M. Thomas P. Gilbert,1* Dennis L. Jenkins,2* Anders Götherstrom,3 Nuria Naveran,4 Juan J. Sanchez,5 Michael Hofreiter,6 Philip Francis Thomsen,1 Jonas Binladen,1 Thomas F. G. Higham,7 Robert M. Yohe, II,8 Robert Parr,8 Linda Scott Cummings,9 Eske Willerslev1{dagger}

The timing of the first human migration into the Americas and its relation to the appearance of the Clovis technological complex in North America at about 11,000 to 10,800 radiocarbon years before the present (14C years B.P.) remains contentious. We establish that humans were present at Paisley 5 Mile Point Caves, in south-central Oregon, by 12,300 14C years B.P., through the recovery of human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from coprolites, directly dated by accelerator mass spectrometry. The mtDNA corresponds to Native American founding haplogroups A2 and B2. The dates of the coprolites are >1000 14C years earlier than currently accepted dates for the Clovis complex.

17. The Du Archives are filled with mostly human and some troll coprolites :)

I think that it's pretty amazing that they are pulling mtDNA out of coprolites for genetic analysis of populations. This is a very interesting area of genetics imo.

3. No. They scrub all evidence of the carnage.

I kid. Yes, all except the deleted threads will still be available. You'll just have to search whatever the forum reverts back to...like GD-Politics.

4. Deleted threads? You can't see those at all. Will LOCKED threads be accessible?
I'm worried that people could really turn this into a huge fight based on things that were said months ago.

Oh, well.

People bring up locked threads all the time as "ammunition" on every subject anyone ever stumbles into... or just for kicks.

OK. I'm taking your word for it.

Thanks so much, Lone_Star_Dem.

8. From my previous experience with the DU archive system
Yes. You will be able to view all locked threads. Actually, the all become "locked" when in archive.

Deleted threads are the only thing not accessible any longer as they've been blasted off to the the nether regions of cyberspace.

9. Appreciate the information, Lone_Star_Dem. I will consider your word as the law...
unless someone else intervenes.

You're right! All threads are archived, but I hope the locked icon will still show -- indicating that the moderators thought the thread was flamebait or locked it for other reasons set out in the final post.

Thanks.

10. The moderators locking messages will still be there
As a testament to the thread being locked and usually with a bit of wisdom as to why as well.

Glad to be of help. :)

if I knew they'd be shortly unsaid, so to speak.
