9. Bush took Elko County where this paper is based with better than 70% in both 2000 & 2004.
So it's not surprising that McCain is ahead, but what is surprising is that it's close. In Elko County the Republican should be way ahead, but he's not.

Senator Obama is very popular in Elko in spite of the heavy Republican leanings here. He took 65% in the Elko County caucuses that we had in January.

18. As Elko goes, so goes the nation...

I've been to Elko several times, on my way to visit my dear, departed grandmother (before she departed).

I believe it could win an award for "Most likely town to look exactly the same following a nuclear holocaust."

It's got a few more casinos now than it used to, but still, I don't think it's soon to be recognized as the media capital of the world.

Still, I voted.

Obama 194, McCain 206
