Next time around I should take a vaction from DU altogether. Gods of politics willing that won't be for at least 16 years. I came here just after the 2004 fiasco but I understand this has been worse. I accept blame for my parts in the negativity. Being a pagan who lives my life according to trying to keep my positive and negative energies in a state of balance, it wasn't my finest hour to be sure.

The 2004 election was an afternoon Tea that the Junior League compared to this debacle. I didn't see a few minutes go by on this page without a post or thread that would have gotten warnings, suspensions, or summary TS'ing, and many an activist has flown the coop, never to return and I fear, never to return to this wing of the Democratic Party.

People can say what they want about posting on the internet, or being put off by an "anonymous" net site, but this place started as a safe haven, where Liberals who were being bombarded daily on and off net could count on not being attacked for their view and the worst disagreement maybe being "...well, that's YOUR opinion."

5,000 alienated posters, times 5 family members, spread to 4 friends each whispered to 10 aquaintances.....adds up to a ton of people getting a bad message.

All that Skinner did was change the name of "General Discussion: Politics" into "General Discussion: Primaries".

That is all the admin did. Everything else you don't like was done by we the members of Democratic Underground.

It was a sensible move to accomodate the massive level of interest in the Democratic Primaries and candidates.

Blaming the admin for what WE write in OUR posts totally misunderstands the whole point of these discussion forums.

that GD-P produced over time compared to other forums, normalized by the number of available users to see if it really was the most disruptive forum in DU history.

Seems there could be a senior research project or a masters thesis in sociology or communications waiting to be done.

We have had some interesting discussions here over the past months. Some of them about real issues! B-)

Democratic Underground is intended for grown-ups, and most of us act like grown-ups most of the time.

I agree that most of us waste too much time online. Time that would be better spent doing other things.

I love the fact that this Forum is based on freedom of expression and respect for differences of opinion.

The moderators have done a good job enforcing the rules in cases where someone crossed a line.

If someone really bugs you there is always the alert button. Not forgetting the ignore function! ;-)
