Could an Senator Obama supporter suggest something to him |
|
or his campaign staff regarding a couple of things on his web site under the kiddie section. First, most schools have a strict dress code for elementary school children which includes no political clothing. So to suggest that children wear their favorite Obama T-shirt to school or put Obama stickers on their school packs or back packs is not a good idea. Children at this level are usually asked to turn their t-shirt inside out or sent home which might be embarassing for them. Secondly, to suggest that children search for pen pals of like mind in the support for Obama is an open invitation for the nearest pedophile to set up shop online: "Get Your Obama Pen Pals Right Here Kids" and kids will get online to search for pen pals. Latch key kids do not have supervision after school and they do give out way to much information about themselves.
The rest of the ideas presented seem really good but these two, in my opinion, should be scrubbed immediately from that section on his site.
I thank you and my grand daughters thank you.

9. Perhaps, but not all schools do |
|
My grand daughter's school does not. Their policy states, no political shirts, no gang related shirts, no religious shirts, etc...

13. Okay. Then their parents can check what they're wearing before they leave the house. |
|
But for the millions of kids who can wear them to school, what's wrong with Obama making the suggestion?

15. on the T shirt issue: a simple turn of phrase such as 'if your school allows it, wear your |
|
Obama T shirt to school' That takes care of that.
If kids are in a strict dress code school, they know what they can and can't wear after about day 3 each year, even if their parents aren't aware
the pen pal thing though is a legitimate concern and I am embarrassed to admit, one I wouldn't have considered on my own. Blessed with a very savvy kid who wasn't on the net unsupervised until she was at least 14, and who wouldn't go out and meet a stranger alone anyway, I tend not to think about the risks that are out there.
