McCain is "Ed Sullivan"..Obama is "Jon Stewart"
I just don't understand why so many "newsies" remark about McCain's marvelous wit & humor.. I am NOT a young person (59 here), and I find him embarrassingly UN-funny.

I love Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, Craig Ferguson..etc.. and every time I see poor ole McCain desperately trying for a laugh, it makes me cringe..

It always reminds me of the tired ole Borscht-Belt/Vaudeville comedians that used to be on the Ed Sullivan show...

Note to Mccain..if you have to TRY to be funny..or you wait for a laugh that isn't there or the laughs you expect, sound like groans of embarrassment... you are not funny, witty or even entertaining..and they are laughing AT you..not with you..

That said, Obama is not a particularly "funny guy"..and that's just fine with me..

We have just had 8 years of a clown-president.. We are happy and ready to have a serious guy as president...so be funny for your friends & family..

You don't need to entertain us..:)

I'll take this:

over this:

ANY DAY

1. McCain is more like Don Rickles to be more accurate.
But less likable.

6. That's why I said he was more likable.

McCain's humor is mean spirited

whereas Rickles' humor is exaggerated overkill
something only Rickles can do.

4. If we're talking about obnoxious old comics, I think Jack Carter would fit the
description. A more annoying person never lived.

10. I agree with your point,
but not your metaphor. Most of those old "vaudeville" comics were hilarious compared to what passes for comedy these days.

Actually, when he is relaxed and in an informal setting, Obama can be extremely witty. I first became aware of him a few years ago when he was on some NPR talk show, and I remember thinking: "This guy is really funny! He's a politician?"

I think a better comparison would be, Obama is more like a Jack Parr: dry, sharp, quick. McCain is more like an Andy Rooney: dull, obvious, annoying.

12. I'm sure those oldies were funny..in their day.. but they never evolved
and what people think is humorous NOW, is different from what they though funny .....50 years ago :)

There are some older comedians who evolved, and are just as funny now as they ever were..Carl Reiner is one..so is Mel Brooks...but some of them continue doing their ancient schtick, and anyone younger than they are, does not "get" it..

I think Mccain THINKS he's funny, and his minions have told him he's funny, so he keeps on telling the same old lame stories over and over and over.. just like old people in all our families:evilgrin:

The difference? We LOVE those old people, so we keep laughing at their stale jokes :)

16. Well, there were certainly comics who were never funny, at least to me.
Someone mentioned Jack Carter; good example. But come on: George Burns? Jack Benny? Groucho Marx? Phil Silvers? I could go on and on. Those guys were all out of vaudeville and their schtick never got old because it was timeless. Just look at the clips on Youtube.

15. Boomers may not be as "young" as we used to be, but we still outnumber the "REAL" oldies
and I'm guessing that we prefer Maher, Stewart, & Colbert ...to Jackie mason

and most of us probably think of McCain as being from a different era...an era from the past..

17. Obama : Bill Hicks :: McLame : Larry the Cable Guy
John McLame panders to the lowest common denominator, while Obama speaks to those who will hear; while hoping that the right message hits the right people.

20. McCain = Adam Sandler
They both laugh at their own unfunny jokes with a shit eating grin and all of the spontaneity of a small town local sportscaster reading from the teleprompter.
