20. heres the quote:
Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

18. He doesn't even mention her father's ties to organized crime
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 03:56 PM by starroute
http://www.americanmafia.com/Feature_Articles_219.html

July 2002

Very few people outside the world of organized crime realize that the father of the Senator's second wife is James W. Hensley.

And who was James W. Hensley, you ask.

He was an Arizona businessman who fell in with the wrong crowd a while back, and ended up taking the rap for a wheeler-dealer named Kemper Marley, Sr. over a liquor violation case back in 1948.

Although Hensley was represented by the best defense Arizona cash could buy, the services of future Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Justice William Rehnquist, he got slammed away for a whole year.

But it all worked out. When Hensley strolled out of the joint, Marley bought his silence with a lucrative Phoenix-based Budweiser beer distributorship.

http://tiodt.blogspot.com/2006/12/married-to-mob.html

In 1976, then Gov. Raul Castro, a Democrat, appointed Marley, then a billionaire and the state's richest man, to the state racing commission. And that's when one of those pesky investigative reporters got in the way. The reporter's name was Don Bolles and he worked for the Arizona Republic. Bolles discovered a land fraud ring and other crimes that appeared to lead to Sen. Barry Goldwater and other movers and shakers in Arizona.

And he discovered that Kemper Marley, newly appointed to the State Board Racing Commission, had connections to the Mafia. In fact, Marley was a close associate of Peter Licavoli, the mob boss for Arizona. Marley had also served as Chairman of the Board for Valley National Bank, which helped bankroll Bugsy Siegel's construction of the Flamingo in Las Vegas. Digging into Marley's past also uncovered his earlier work for Gus Greenbaum. The revelations forced Marley to resign from the commission.

And Kemper Marley and his associates in the Mafia weren't people whose business you interfered with lightly. On June 2, 1976, Bolles climbed into his car and was blown apart by a bomb under the driver's seat. Pieces of his body were strewn around the parking lot. Bolles amazingly survived for eleven days and said to investgators on the scene, "They finally got me. The Mafia. Emprise. Find John (Harvey) Adamson."

Adamson was later convicted of the murder. But who hired him? That trail was never really followed up on, according to members of the Arizona Project, a group of reporters who began looking into mob ties after the murder.

http://www.hiddenmysteries.org/conspiracy/reststory/kempermarly.html

The best source for an introduction to the environment of total corruption which exists in Arizona is THE ARIZONA PROJECT: HOW A TEAM OF INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS GOT REVENGE ON DEADLINE. This expose was written by Michael Wendland who was part of the group called INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS AND EDITORS that came to Phoenix in the aftermath of the car bombing of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC's investigative reporter, Don Bolles. It was the conclusion of this group that Marley, by far the wealthiest man in Arizona, was behind this murder. . . .

According to intelligence sources of the Phoenix police, who prepared a background profile of Kemper Marley the week following the Bolles murder, Marley was at one time directly connected to the remnants of the old Al Capone mob, operating the TRANSAMERICA WIRE SERVICE. This betting service was originally established in 1941 for Capone's heirs by Gus Greenbaum. Greenbaum was a Phoenix socialite seen at all the society balls in Phoenix, usually in the company of the Barry Goldwaters and Harry Rosenzweigs. In 1958 Greenbaum and his wife were found dead in their bed, their throats cut. This inaugurated a series of grisly gangland-style slayings.

50. shouldn't you be home by now?
Summary - she was 24 when she met McCain who was 42. She started a relationship with him when he was still married. (which reflects badly on her, how?). She kept track of the McCain family finances, but conveniently lost all the receipts and records dealing with Charles Keating. (When somebody gives a bribe do they usually get a receipt?) She became addicted to pain pills when her children were 5, 3 and 1. She started a charity which delivered medical supplies to Africa. In order to get the pills she was addicted to, she stole from that charity, which she ran. (Not sure of the timeline. When was the charity started and when did the addiction start? Anyway, people who are addicted often do things they later find shameful.) When somebody found out about it she fired him and was later sued for wrongful termination and she counter-sued for blackmail. She made $6 million in 2007. She has done some good things - adopted a child from Bangladesh and started and runs another charity.

Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 06:04 PM by galaxy21
I felt my opinion was no less valid just because I didn't want to sit through some ginger guy ranting about something that bears no real relevance on the campaign.

There's no reason to drag people's spouses into this. Will Cindy be running the country? No. John Mccain will be.

There's so much wrong with him as president, no one should have to resort to digging up dirt on his family that may or may not be true. Frankly, it demeans us all.

46. no one is 'dragging' Cindy into this- she is IN this as
part of her relationship to her husband.

Just as Michelle is- Just as Bill was, and as Hillary was when Bill became POTUS.

Some spouses had very little involvement with the "Presidency"- Mrs. Truman for one- Elinor Rosevelt in FDR's first term- for another.

I linked to an article about the McCains adoption in a post above, here is the link again.

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/05/cindy-mccains-tarnished-halo.php

This isn't "digging up dirt" this is comparing the 'spin' that the McCains have CHOSEN to use to paint themselves in a positive light with- with some actual FACTS surrounding the situation.

There is a way to discuss, and comment on the personal 'experiences' that candidates AND their spouses choose to use as political 'capitol' that doesn't 'demean' those doing the questioning, but rather discloses a more honest and balanced view of reality. Not to do so, would be foolish- Truth is important. Credibility is VERY important.

peace~

49. "Frankly, it demeans us all."
Thank you for saying it. It is annoying coming from right or left. A spouse is a spouse, when they make public pronouncements then their words and their qualifications become fair game to the same degree as anyone else on the campaign, but who someone is married to, the qualities, or lack thereof of that person, should be off limits, IMHO. In the case of Michele (or, earlier, Hillary) we have strong women who are the equals of anyone in speaking and writing, but wives and kids should be off limits,

42. My only problem with that is that Repukes do not play fair.
Just look at the latest "Terrorist Fist Jab" crap. I am tired of playing fair. Cindy McCain is an elitist who has never worked a day in her life. She has had a drug problem which should be relevant. Remember how the repukes attacked Big Dawg when he admitted smoking pot? The point is that many reich-wingers expect ultra pure people in office. This person ain't and it needs to be known.

Having said that, I think people with addiction problems need to receive help. She did and I am glad for that, but if she were poor and a minority she probably would have received jail time. People need to know who she is. She isn't the pearl wearing grandma that was Barbara Bush.

43. If she 'took in a sick child' she
sure as HELL should have been prepared to 'raise it as her own'.

I don't hold her in any way 'special' because she made the decision to adopt a child from India. I DO find the fact that she made the decision to do so without discussing it with her husband very troubling. I also find the fact that she was addicted to painkillers at the time even MORE troubling.

If you really care about the quality and character of a person, please read this link-
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/05/cindy-mccains-tarnished-halo.php
I don't 'fault' Cindy for her addiction- it happens to lots of people- I DO mind people using their positions of wealth and power to manipulate situations to their advantage, while then going on to USE their deceptive actions to make themselves "look" good and noble.

I'm not speaking out of my ass here- I understand adoption- special needs children etc very well.

PLEASE read the link. There is much to Ms. Mccain that leaves room for sincere inquiry.

peace~

That thing is the question of age gap between McCain and his wife. My father was 18 years older than my mother. There is nothing wrong with having a younger wife, or with a woman having a younger husband. Period.

The real story is McCain ditching Carol after coming back from Vietnam. I'm tired of the ageist bullshit.
