McCain: Carter had "the greatest, the noblest and loftiest intentions of any president"
But what's truly funny about McCain's "Obama equals Carter" line is that the Arizona Republican hasn't always been so down on the former president and his team of advisers. In a May 1999 interview with The Hill newspaper, on the occasion of his first presidential run, McCain was asked to opine on the recent occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In his written reply, McCain described Carter as having had "the greatest, the noblest and loftiest intentions of any president, but he never really understood how to use the institution to obtain his goals." In his brief response to the question, McCain also said that while the Iranian hostage crisis "brought him down and conveyed to the people he was a weak president. Whether he was or not, that's ."

Amazing to see what this bastard has become. How does one go from praising Jimmy Carter and almost leaving the GOP after being slimed and smeared by Bush & Co to becoming one of the Senate's most conservative and crazed idiots who can never get enough of kissing Bush's ass. This simply shows what a lack of character and ethics McCain has and how much of a hypocrite he is.

1. Obviously McCain is pandering in search of votes.
But I doubt if it will work.

4. I don't see the problem.

I had a boss who became one of the most oppressive, manipulative and hateful people it's been my misfortune to know. My opinion was not the universally accepted opinion; however, it was far from uncommon among other employees.

He had the loftiest ideals and only wanted the best for everybody he knew, right up to the end, doing what he did for the best possible reasons. This was less universally accepted.

Some couldn't see how you could treat people like shit, and yet think that you're doing them a favor. They had limited imaginations.

Don't know if McCain believes that Carter was a great president in the abstract or not, or if he flubbed horribly in execution. But I'm not going to say he can't see the difference between intent and execution.

5. Jimmy Carter was one of the best
and honesty was his trademark in office.

It had nothing to do with "understanding the institution to obtain his goals".

Does McCain mean you have to lie and cheat and deceive the public to "obtain your goals"? That's what it sounds like to me.
