http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/ny-bc-ny--butts-bloomberg0104jan04,0,4316403.story?coll=ny-ap-regional-wireMayor Michael Bloomberg is performing well at a difficult point in the city's history but must work harder to reach poor and minority residents, one of New York's most prominent black ministers said. "Mike Bloomberg, work at it, you've got some issues," said Rev. Calvin Butts, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. "He's got to be in touch with the common man and woman, listen more to people on the street."
Butts, who is also president of the State University of New York College at Old Westbury, said he had considered running for public office, particularly as a candidate for U.S. Senate. "I'd love to be the first African-American man from New York to serve in the Senate," he said.
Of the Democratic candidates for president, Butts said he favored Howard Dean. "I think he can appeal to a segment that (President) Bush thinks he has in his pocket _ the white, male working class guy," Butts said.
