14 Republican members of Congress have refused to endorse or publicly support Sen. John McCain
Who's divided now?

New Gang of 14 won’t back McCain

At least 14 Republican members of Congress have refused to endorse or publicly support Sen. John McCain for president, and more than a dozen others declined to answer whether they back the Arizona senator.

Many of the recalcitrant GOP members declined to detail their reasons for withholding support, but Rep. John Peterson (R-Pa.) expressed major concerns about McCain’s energy policies and Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) cited the Iraq war.

A handful of other Republicans on Capitol Hill made the distinction between “endorsing” and “supporting,” adding that while they have not endorsed, they do support McCain.

In recent weeks, much of the discussion and debate about party unity has been on the Democrats’ side, amid their protracted presidential primary. Yet achieving harmony is a concern on both sides of the aisle this year.

It is not unusual for certain factions of the Democratic and Republican parties not to embrace their respective candidates for president. McCain’s campaign seized on some Democrats’ reticence about Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), issuing a release on Tuesday that highlighted that Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.) is not endorsing the presumptive nominee. While some conservative Democrats have yet to endorse Obama and didn’t back Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004, there are both centrist and conservative Republicans representing various parts of the country who are not embracing McCain.

Republican members who have not endorsed or publicly backed McCain include Sens. Chuck Hagel (Neb.) and Jeff Sessions (Ala.) and Reps. Jones, Peterson, John Doolittle (Calif.), Randy Forbes (Va.), Wayne Gilchrest (Md.), Virgil Goode (Va.), Tim Murphy (Pa.), Ron Paul (Texas), Ted Poe (Texas), Todd Tiahrt (Kan.), Dave Weldon (Fla.) and Frank Wolf (Va.).

I haven't been home to see the news. Is this on cable news the same as Boren's comment about Obama was?

Boyda endorses Obama
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 08:49 PM by Mabus
I hope this puts to rest the criticism that Nancy is not a Democrat. She's been catching a lot of undue shit from certain people on this forum who have been insinuating that she's not a Democrat.

Topeka — U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Topeka, on Wednesday made it official — she's endorsing Barack Obama for president.

Boyda and a handful of Democrats from more conservative congressional districts made headlines last week by staying uncommitted even after Obama clinched the party’s nomination over Hillary Clinton.

Boyda, a freshman, is preparing for a tough re-election bid in the district that runs from the northeast corner of Kansas to the southeast corner, and includes western Lawrence. She will face either State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, or former Rep. Jim Ryun, who she narrowly defeated in 2006.

Liz Montano, a Boyda spokeswoman, said Boyda has always said she would back the Democratic nominee.

She said she decided to announce her support of Obama now because his campaign has promised to focus on all 50 states instead of only so-called swing states.

Montano said Boyda still plans to skip the Democratic National Convention in Denver so she can work in the district. “She’d rather be doing her day job,” she said.

edited to add bolding to the paragraph citing the reason it took so long for her to endorse him. She was elected because of the 50 State Strategy and it appears she held out until she had assurance

Yes, it was between the in-depth report on voter caging and the follow-up on WMDs. Coming up after the commercial break: Kucinich's impeachment resolution.

Do I need this? :sarcasm:

4. Makes you sick, doesn't it? I checked MSNBC's website from
work the day after Rep. Kucinich's introduction of the articles, and what jumped out of the home page? A couple had sex for 101 straight days.

Wow. :wtf:
