"Obama's Baby Mama?"
That's how our pals at Faux News referred to Michelle Obama today.

:puke:

Full bottom-of-screen message: "Outraged Liberals: Stop Picking on Obama's Baby Mama"

I'm waiting for the fair-and-balanced folks to do a piece on Cindy McCain referring to her using some of her husband's more endearing descriptions...

2. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
You know what I did? I started boycotting television news sources about six years ago. I don't watch ANY of them, period. That's how you hurt them the most--take away their viewership.

(Just ask Bill O'Reilly.)

45. The Onion parodied this tendency a while back
They ran a picture of Obama under the headline "Black Man Asks Nation for Change". It's a sad state of affairs when an Onion parody seems subtle in comparison to the real so called "dog-whistles" (which are more like dog-foghorns) of the MSM.

50. Sadly, the Onion's satire has often later become fact
Their January 2001 Bush inaugeration one where he promises to end our long national nightmare of peace & prosperity by starting at least one war in the Middle East...

Or, the one a few years later where Bush announces his exit strategy from Iraq by going through Iran...

36. It means Fox is implying Michelle had her two children out-of-wedlock
I didn't understand it at first, but then when I heard what it really meant, it was stunning in how disgusting it was.

1. baby mama

The mother of your child(ren), whom you did not marry and with whom you are not currently involved.
Oh her? She ain't nothing to me now, girl, she just my baby mama. So, can I get your number?

2. baby mama
A term used to define an unmarried young woman (but can be a woman of any age) who has had a child. As mentioned before in another definition, most of the time it is used for when it was simply a sexual relationship, compared to ex-wife or girlfriend. Usually this has a negative connotation, a lot of baby mamas are seen as desperate, gold digging, emotionally starved, shady women who had a baby out of spite or to keep a man. Sometimes they may act like this because of missed child support payments, unfulfilled promises by the father, or convenient sex by the father. Either or both may exist in any situation.
Joe didn't have any relationship with that chick, she was the "other woman" who ended up being his baby mama.

66. Fox news is stereotyping the Obamas (and vicariously all black people) as animals or ghetto-trash.
The underlying message is that black people aren't capable of marriage or committed relationships. Like animals, they just fuck whoever they want, whenever they want and produce baby after baby out of wedlock. It's calling Barack a "playa", Michelle a "slut", and their two beautiful girls "bastards".

Personally, if I were Barack and someone called my wife and mother of my children a "BABY MAMA" I would have a VERY hard time restraining myself from doing them serious physical harm. In my book that's cause for a punch in the mouth.

I'm Black. Maybe that's why. Or maybe not.

But thank you for bringing it to my attention....as now, I'll have to figure out what to do about it. Oh....I know; nothing.

Pretty soon, they'll be accusing the Obama camp of having played the race card...in particular if the Obama camp was to start keeping track of these utterances via a memo.

I've learned during primary season that giving attention to every stupid ass thing that Fox as well as others say and do in terms of racial utterance has got to be for those with nothing better to do.

I have also stopped watching CNN for the most part because they have Lou Dobbs on it, and Glenn Beck on CNN headline news. Beck has a story on Michelle on right now, ohhhhh, I left it on for a few minutes. I feel dirty just watching them. I don't watch many news shows, just Keith O, The Daily Show, and the Cobert Report. And that is what they will push, subtly or right out in the open, from now until november. Had it been Clinton it would have been "don't vote for the c*t". They cannot win on the issues, they cannot win on the record, they cannot win on people's daily experience of american life after 40 years of almost continuous rethuglican rule, so they are going to go after the base racist emotional level of our citizenry. I think we are better than that and we will not only rise above their bullshit, we will transcend it, their vile bullshit is going to hurt them rather than help them.

29. Cable New and The Nielson Ratings
The only way to make an impact on a program's ratings is by being a Nielson TV Family. That is the only way they count the ratings for a particular show. Ordinary people who do not have a Nielson Box are not counted. You can turn off your TV but it won't have an impact. Other options to punish a network is by writing letters to the sponsors stating you are boycotting the network. You have to hurt them in the pocketbook. Emails and phone calls made during the last debate also drew attention. Complaints about Complaints about "Obama's Baby Mama" and the upcoming negative programing this fall will only be heard if an organized effort is made to stop it. It has to be in large numbers and organized. Anyone have other suggestions?

39. I have an idea on how to handle Faux News
I've been playing around with this for some time.

Instead of complaining directly to them yet again, I suggest we get a list of their advertisers and put them on 30-day Notice.

Citing the many and increased instances of outrageous material such as X X X and X
It is obvious that Fox News is not a media outlet for the purpose of reporting and advising on current events.
The title Fox News is grossly misleading and inaccurate of the purpose.
We find them irresponsible, dangerous and woefully inappropriate.

Resolution for Fox News is 1) complete removal or 2) Changing their official and legal titles, filings and categorizations that would or could be interpreted as non-comedic viewing AND replacing all titles to include the word "comedy" or "humor."

Therefore, supporters of the actions of Fox News have until July 30 2008 to permanently remove advertisments, announcements and any related items that may be heard or viewed by more than 10 people outside of their stations at any given time or date.

Failure to comply with this Notice will be taken as not less than an admission of support for the past, current and future actions and existence of Fox News.

All businesses, organizations and related entities that fail to comply with this Notice will be strongly boycotted for a period of no less than one year, commencing August 1, 2008 at 12:01 a.m.

As this notice is clear in purpose and intent, no other notices will be forthcoming.

--------------------

You get the idea. I'm off to work.

55. Its' the dual attack themes: He's ghetto or he's uppity.
Whatever Obama does, his conduct will be attacked as either "too black" or "too elitist."

These are not accidently crafted designations. This is planned and carried out in a daily scheme. Their plan is to label Obama with tags that appeal to racist voters. If he does anything that links him to being black, they ghettoize it. If he does anything that is standard American conduct, he's attacked as being too elite.

The attack about the bike riding is a good example. He's attacked as dorky, as nerdy, for riding a bike with his daughter, while wearing a standard safety helmet, as required by law. Characterizing his wife as a baby mama and the controversy as "drama," Fox stokes the coals of racism by using such terms.

64. Great Ideas WILLO
Willo,
I like the suggestions you have given here. The important thing is are we just all going to sit back and complain or are we going to become an activist group who actually follows through?

Are there enough people on this site that are willing to take these measures and run with them?

We need a post that not only suggests active measures we can take but also is willing to organize as a group and start working.

72. Thanks Phoenixriz
I've been thinking about this and I think you hit on something that has been nagging me about DU. I was drawn here by a particular OP and have since spent the majority of my time in GD:P. Today, I reread the "About Democratic Underground" and took a better look around.

There are a lot of other forums. For instance, there is an Activist HQ forum and a Media forum.
GDP has been spurred to action on occasion (i.e. the ABC debate). But, it is a large, fast moving hodgepodge forum so actively pursuing a potential long-term action such as this, might do better in one of those forums.

Discussions and information seem to be the major actions. Note that both of the forums I mentioned fall under the larger heading "Discussion Forum" and subheading "Issue Forums". There is a separate heading entitled "DU Groups", under which is a subheading "Politics, Issues and Media." Back under the Discussion Forum/Issue Forums is a Democrats forum. on the surface, that seems an unnecessary forum to have on DU.

Overall, it seems there is a lot going on here at the Democratic Underground and warrants investigating and learning our way around.

70. I haven't watched television news for about 3 years...
...and it does wonders for one's stress level. TV news is just so irritating, crafted with quick edits, etc that I can't stand to watch it. I did always like C-SPAN, though.
