I know I know this is yesterday's news, but I didn't really have a chance to add my 2 cents so I'm going to now.
There are a few Democrats in Congress where I can understand them not attending the convention and not endorsing the nominee. This is due to them not having much seniority, representing very very red districts, and being prime targets for the GOP. AT MOST this number is about 5. Nancy Boyda is an example of this. She's a freshman who represents an incredibly red district and I would understand if she didn't endorse Obama (even though she did) and I understand why she's considering not attending the convention. Travis Childers who just won a special election in Mississippi would be another good example where I could excuse it.
Dan Boren IS NOT someone who has an excuse. He's a legacy brat with plenty of money and his race isn't even competitive. Cook, Sabato, CQ Politics, and all of the other sites don't even have his race on their map which means that Boren is a shoe-in for re-election.
Furthermore if he wanted to distance himself from Obama, the respectable thing to do would be to skip the convention. Instead he says "I'm voting for him at the convention I'm voting for him in November but I can't endorse him" and then goes on to parrot right wing talking points about Obama's lack of bipartisanship and how he's the "most liberal senator".
Boren is trying to have it both ways because he probably wants to run for Senator or Governor in a few years. He wants national party support but bashes the party's nominee to score political points for a future statewide race. Frankly I think that's a load of crap and that Boren needs to skip the convention if that is the way he feels.

1. That's the strange thing with Boren -- he's not in danger. |

There's no good reason for him to try to distance himself from Obama or the national party.
In fact, he's probably hurt himself in the long run by this stance. He looks like a coward and a traitor. I wouldn't be surprised if even Republicans' estimation of him drops because of this. Nobody respects a wimp.
