1. Key Women Clinton Supporters: McCain Won't Get Our Vote
John McCain has made it clear that his campaign intends to aggressively court supporters of Hillary Clinton, include her major base of women voters. Now top women Clinton supporters have a message for McCain: not so fast.

Key Women Clinton Supporters: McCain Won't Get Our Vote
Wed Jun 11 The Nation

"The McCain campaign has been talking about the mythology of trying to pick up HRC supporters," says Ellen Malcolm, president of EMILY'S List. "This is a pipe dream, because he's out of touch with their lives and the issues they care about."

"We are here to sound the alarm bell," said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of South Florida on a conference call today. "We are going to work hard to make sure that John McCain is not allowed to pull the wool over womens' eyes one more day."

Wasserman-Schultz pointed to McCain's opposition to universal healthcare, universal pre-K, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and raising the minimum wage as some of the many reasons women voters will rally around Barack Obama come November. "As a young woman in America who is a mom with three young kids, there is a real fear that John McCain will be dangerous for women," Wasserman-Schultz said. "He will impede our progress."

Malcolm and Wasserman-Schultz referenced http://www.gallup.com/poll/107806/Obama-Gains-Among-Women-After-Clinton-Exit.aspx">a new Gallup poll showing Obama leading McCain by 13 points among women voters, a six point bump since Clinton exited the race and endorsed Obama. Gallup found that Obama is now "matching Clinton's performance among women versus McCain." In addition, Obama leads McCain among women 50 and older--a key chunk of Clinton's base--by six points, after trailing McCain among that group when Clinton remained in the race.

McCain is currently running well behind George W. Bush in 2004, who lost women voters to John Kerry by just three points by appealing to "security moms." And among non-college educated white women--another key segment of Clinton's base--Bush beat Kerry by nineteen points. In '06, Democrats cut that margin to five, a big reason why they recaptured Congress. If Obama can match that '06 number, there's a good chance Democrats will recapture the White House.

2. Johnson resigns from Obama's veep vetting team
Johnson resigns from Obama's veep vetting team By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - A former CEO leading Barack Obama's search for a vice presidential candidate resigned abruptly Wednesday after questions about his home mortgage deals became a distraction for a candidate who argues he's not influenced by special interests

..."Jim did not want to distract in any way from the very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee, so he has made a decision to step aside that I accept," Obama said. "We have a very good selection process under way, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead."

Johnson, the former chairman of mortgage lender Fannie Mae, came under fire from GOP candidate John McCain and the Republican Party after The Wall Street Journal reported last Saturday that Johnson got mortgages with help from the CEO of Countrywide Financial Corp.

McCain had accused Obama of hypocrisy for speaking out against Countrywide's role in the subprime mortgage crisis.

3. McCain: Bringing Troops Home From Iraq "Not Too Important"
McCain: Bringing Troops Home From Iraq "Not Too Important"
By Greg Sargent -TPM June 11, 2008, 9:08AM

Uh oh. It's one thing to say we need to keep the troops in Iraq indefinitely because it's somehow central to maintaining our national security. But it's another thing entirely to suggest that bringing them home is "not too important."

Yet that's what John McCain appeared to do on The Today Show this morning...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSaH2uyWz_I

Asked whether McCain could give us a good estimate when the troops might come home, McCain said:

"No, but that's not too important. What's important is the casualties in Iraq."
McCain went on to say that we have troops stationed at multiple other places around the globe. So, clearly, his point here is that the central question is not when they can be brought home, but when they can be moved out of harm's way.

Still, this is an awfully clumsy and inartful way to put it, and strikes us as a pretty serious gaffe. After all, one would imagine that the question of timing might have a bit of significance for the troops themselves and their families.

6. McCain, PC or Mac? Or Abacus?
"How can a candidate who admits he is stuck in the 20th century lead a country in the 21st, when he lacks even the most basic understanding of how this brave new century operates?"

McCain, PC or Mac? Or Abacus?
The Personal IS Political Wednesday, June 11, 2008

A while back ago John McCain was asked if he used a Mac or a PC. Sure, not a question of any relevance to anyone, that is, until his answer:

Neither, I'm an illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance I can get.

A chimp can use a computer, how the hell can a US Senator, someone running to run the most powerful country in the world, not know how to work a damn computer after they have been around for over two decades?? It isn't that hard, you play around with it for an hour and you'll figure it out. Kids can do it before they learn to read. And John McCain can't?

...

And no, age is no excuse, because there are plenty of people his age and older who have learned how to use a computer. If he doesn't have the cognitive abilities to adapt to new technology (in other words the cognitive abilities of a 6 year old), how the hell is he supposed to keep up with the constant challenges of leading a nation? The other possibility is perhaps even more disconcerting--if McCain does have the mental capacity to learn new things, why on earth has he resisted learning how to use a computer, when computers have become such a fundamental part of our society? Computers and the internet have unlocked historically unprecedented access to knowledge and information, access that has and will continue to change the shape of society, and yet in a society where knowledge is power, McCain remains willfully ignorant of even the most fundamental tool of unlocking all of this potential? Why? What does that mean about McCain? I don't want to make too much out of this, but seriously, how could you be surrounded by this technology, this incredibly important, history-changing technology, and not at least be curious, not at least learn the basics, especially when you are a US Senator??

I don't know what to make of it, but I think it speaks volumes about McCain's character, we just don't know whether it is saying that he is hopelessly dysfunctional, or stubbornly anti-change.

8. Hey Fox News, Just Call Her A N***** And Be Done With It, Okay?
Perfect way to address the wife of a Presidential candidate, no?

Hey Fox News, Just Call Her A N***** And Be Done With It, Okay?Oliver Willis June 11, 2008

Fox News refers to Michelle Obama as Senator Obama’s “Baby Mama”.

So here’s the thing (because during this campaign I’m apparently learning that we black people have our own secret code and hand signals so this stuff has to be explained like you are speaking to a child at times), using the phrase “baby mama” to describe this woman implies that like too many people in the black community, she is a mother on her own with no man around doing his job.

Except, Barack and Michelle Obama are the exact opposite of this, and that is one of the reason America - especially black America - are so proud of them.

But Fox News is the network that tears down those who do not toe the line, and if that means they should resort to jive to describe a black woman as a “baby mama” despite the strength of her family and her own personal success, so be it.

Screw you guys.

Do you think they would have called Cindy McCain a “baby mama”? No, they wouldn’t.

9. I Don’t Remember This John Kerry
John Kerry used to be a prosecutor and he reminded us of that today

I Don’t Remember This John Kerry
By: John Cole
Maybe it is because I am wholly and completely in the tank for Obama and I am filtering things differently, but I do not remember John Kerry being this aggressive:

John Kerry, who’s served in the past as Obama’s heavy-hitter on national security, expressed incredulity at McCain’s remark this morning that the timing of troops return is “not too important.”

“It is unbelievably out of touch and inconsistent with the needs of Americans and particularly the families of troops who are over there. To them it’s the most important thing in the world when they come home,” he said. “It’s a policy for staying in Iraq.”

Kerry and Obama aide Susan Rice also both said McCain is “confused”—a line some in McCain’s camp will surely take as a shot at the candidate’s age.

I remember him making a comment last week that sounded strident (I forgot to blog about it, but I remember saying “ouch” when I heard him utter it), and then there is this conference call in which Kerry was again on the attack. Is this a new and improved aggressive John Kerry, or am I predisposed to think of his comments more positively now that he is an Obama surrogate? Did he learn from 2004, or is he just a better surrogate than he was candidate (I know some people are terrible at defending themselves, but great at defending others).

10. OBAMA WITHIN 6% OF MCCAIN IN MISSISSIPPI
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 12:30 AM by 27inCali

Check out this map:

http://www.electoral-vote.com/

and check out mississippi.

and I think these numbers are based of polls taken before he got his bounce.

ok, maybe it's a long shot, but wouldn't it be nice to hear the MSM talking about McCain having to put money and time into Mississippi in the final month of so of the campaign!?!?!
wouldn't you love to see Barack do campaign stops there and draw his huge crowds.
What an embarassment it would be to a GOP, talk about morale killer!

11. Pondering the taxing of my Afro…
OMG Truth yet bitingly funny.

Pondering the taxing of my Afro… posted by Shark-fu at "Angry Black Bitch"Blog on June 11, 2008

A bitch watched the news this morning and I was fascinated by the back and forth between the Presumptives over what qualifies as a tax cut or a tax increase.

This bitch sure as shit didn’t qualify for the Bush tax cuts…hell, I don’t know anyone who did (wince). But it appears that McCain has latched onto the notion of making those tax cuts permanent and that he is also embracing Bushish logic to explain why he thinks that bullshit is a good idea.

McCain wants to make the tax cuts permanent because he claims that their existence is critical to stimulating our economy. He also believes that not renewing those tax cuts for folks making over $250,000 per year (daaaaaaaaamn, that’s a lot of cabbage) after they expire in a few years is a tax increase.

Blink.

Gawd, that sounds Rovian as a motherfucker!

...Anyhoo, all I know is that my Afro is being taxed more than the Afros of those bringing in a hell of a lot more money than this bitch.

So a bitch has a question…if helping people who make over $250,000 a year keep their money is critical to our economy…and the rest of us can just go fuck ourselves twice on payday…then why the fuck send stimulus checks out to the masses?
