New poll: Obama up in New Jersey by six-points
Obama: 45%
McCain: 39%

With a double-digit lead among women, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the likely Democratic presidential candidate, leads Arizona Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican standard-bearer, 45 - 39 percent in New Jersey, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This is virtually unchanged from a 46 - 39 percent Obama lead in a February 21 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, when New York Sen. Hillary Clinton still was in the race.

In this latest survey, women back Sen. Obama 46 - 35 percent while men split 44 - 44 percent. Independent voters go 42 percent for Sen. McCain to 40 percent for Obama, while Democrats back Obama 74 - 10 percent and Republicans back McCain 83 - 9 percent.

New Jersey voters give Obama a 56 - 32 percent favorability rating to McCain's 51 - 36 percent.

2. Good for New Jersey
I wonder if Repubs will once again spend big dollars in that state.

4. New Jersey: The Unpretension Capitol of the World!

It just isn't in New Jersey's nature to "drink Kool-Aid"--not even among the most conservative of us. That's why while it might turn purple, New Jersey will NEVER turn red!

3. This should widen the gap...

One of Congress' most influential Hispanic members says that John McCain "walked away" from the Latino community and is not a "person of principle" on immigration reform -- a perception that could haunt the Arizona Republican in the general election.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Sen. Robert Menendez offered a scathing rebuke of McCain, painting him as a candidate who sold his political soul to secure his party's presidential nomination.

"In my mind, he has dramatically shifted. He has really taken a Republican tact," said the New Jersey Democrat. "It seems to me, and it is out there in the community, that he walked away at a critical time. And when you take that view, which shows that he is not the person of principle that he would like to show himself being, and you wear the Republican mantle that is so negative and anti-immigrant... I think it is very hard for John McCain to make hay with Latinos at the end of the day."

5. The Republicans always delude themselves into thinking they have a shot in NJ
and the working crowd always shows up after work and the Dems win the Senate and state house

Again some of this might just be trying to convince people that they are viable simply to influence groupthink

6. Do New Jersey residents purposedly "Head Fake" Repubs?
I've noticed over the years that the polls in New Jersey always seem to show a close race and then break Democratic at the end. In 2004, the race seemed like Bush lead Kerry by a slight margin up until the end when New Jersey went for Kerry. It seems that they lure Repubs into investing money and time in the state only to ultimately lose. Is this part of some Democratic conspiracy to get Repub hopes up only to say at the last moment, "Nah, we're jus' bustin' yor balls!". If so, keep up the good work!

7. Good news. But this highlights that McCain's image among Independents must be targeted.
Heavily. And now.

8. These Dem-Leaning States are Key
Looks like Obama is in a good position right to take them. That gives him more leway to pur money into swing states and go on the offense in Rep-leaning states.
