Let's take the measure of DU's pulse ... and clarity of the crystal balls.

The impact of Ralph Nader's candidacy in 2000 has been argued endlessly on DU. We don't need to refight that battle (even though the blame-shifters are just wrong). We've also had some sporadic battles arguing the net impact of race and gender on Obama's candidacy this year. So ... let's wet our fingers and place them where the breeze (however temporary or methane-laden) is greatest and make an assessment of which of factors will have the GREATEST net negative impact:

• Nader's candidacy in 2000 attracting votes that would otherwise be cast for Al Gore;
• Obama's race causing people who would otherwise vote for the Democrat to not vote or vote for McCain, Barr, or Nader; or
• Disgruntled/disappointed voters who would have voted for Hillary Clinton and will not vote or vote for McCain, Barr, or Nader;
