Ron Paul rejects McCain ‘values,’ praises Libertarian Barr |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 08:38 AM by Fighting Irish
(snip) “Does represent those values faithfully?” Roberts asked.
“Very much — the values that we’re competing with,” Paul answered. “Not our values.”
“Does he represent true Republican values?” Roberts repeated.
“I don’t think so at all,” Paul replied. “He does not represent limited government values, and the Republicans deserve to hear the other side of the story.”
Roberts then asked Paul about former Congressman Bob Barr, who was chosen as this year’s Libertarian Party nominee after Paul refused to repeat his 1988 candidacy. “Does he faithfully represent the values of the Libertarian Party?”
“I think so,” Paul replied, explaining that Barr may not have had a perfect voting record in Congress, but “that doesn’t mean that he can’t represent these values. He’s saying the things that he should be saying. … He can have a very positive effect in this campaign.”

3. He's running to keep his congressional seat |
|
If he would have switched back to the Libertarian Party, he would have gotten the nomination, no questions asked. The Libertarians are obviously drooling over Paul's supporters, and he was their nominee for president back in '88.
If Paul decided to run third party, McLame would be toast. Even a small percentage of the vote taken away from McSame would spell disaster.

4. He's supposedly going to start a fund for libertarian Repubs |

He stated when he hung up his campaign that he will use the about 4.5 million that he has left to push the Repub party towards the libertarian agenda by supporting libertarian Repubs. I think he sees himself as Barry Goldwater.

6. He doesn't have to run third party... |
|
...to send the appropriate signals to his supporters that that's how they should vote. ;)

5. I still grudgingly like Paul |
|
I don't want him any closer to the White House than his office in Rayburn, but I think the country is better off for his having his say.
