Clinton Youth Director Reaches Out To Iowa Students Threatening To Back McCain
Clinton's youth director, Emily Hawkins, has written to the leaders of an Iowa student group that supported Hillary and is threatening to back McCain.

Dear Cody and Nikki,

Over the past sixteen months, on hundreds of campuses all across our country, Students for Hillary and Hillblazers poured their hearts into Hillary's campaign. You knocked on thousands of doors, helped make literally hundreds of thousands of phone calls, and built enthusiasm for Hillary and the causes she's served her whole life. I know Hillary is proud of your efforts.

Now Hillary has begun a new chapter of this race, endorsing Senator Obama and pledging to do all she can to help him take back the White House. As Hillary said on Saturday, "The way to continue our fight now — to accomplish the goals for which we stand — is to take our energy, our passion, our strength and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama the next President of the United States."

You stood with Hillary, and Hillary will always stand with you. She will always fight on behalf of the issues that brought all of us to her campaign: achieving universal healthcare, making college affordable, ending the war in Iraq, addressing climate change, and so much more. And as Hillary has said, the best way to serve these causes — and help change our country — is to join forces with Senator Obama and his supporters on campuses across this country to elect a Democratic president in November. The stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines and that is why Hillary is calling on each of you to work as hard for Senator Obama as you have worked for her. It is so important that we build on all we've achieved by uniting as Democrats to deliver the new leadership our nation so desperately needs.

Sincerely,
Emily Hawkins

7. Those few wishful-thinking holdouts won't be enough to derail our nominee.

McCain's War on Women

John McCain is often painted as a moderate.

But where does he really stand on issues that affect women?

McCain's Senate record may surprise you. From equal pay to domestic violence programs, from sex education to the fundamental question of what conversations a woman may or may not have with her doctor, McCain is no moderate.

Get the facts about where John McCain stands on these issues, then let us know where you stand on John McCain.

McCain's War on Equal Pay

* McCain skipped a recent vote on Equal Pay, and said that instead of legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay, they simply need "education and training." (Women are currently paid less than men for the same work, even when they have the same education and training as men).

McCain's War on Birth Control

* McCain has never cosponsored or supported legislation that would reduce the need for abortion by preventing unintended pregnancy
* McCain voted against requiring insurance companies that pay for prescription drugs (like Viagra) to pay equally for women's prescription birth control
* McCain voted for the domestic & global gag rules, which prohibit federally funded family-planning clinics from giving women full information about their reproductive health options

McCain's War on Women's Health

* McCain voted to terminate the Title X family planning program, which provides millions of women with health care services ranging from birth control to breast & cervical cancer screenings
* McCain voted to de‐fund the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), an organization that provides family planning services - not abortion - for the world's poorest women

McCain's War on Sex Education

* McCain voted against funding teen pregnancy prevention programs and against ensuring that "abstinence‐only" programs are at least medically accurate
* McCain voted to earmark one‐third of all HIV/AIDS prevention funds for ineffective, unproven, and dangerous "abstinence‐only" programs
* McCain voted to take $75 million from the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant to establish a new "abstinence‐only" program that censors information about birth control

McCain's War on Choice

* Voted anti-choice 125 out of 130 times in his congressional career
* Voted in favor of anti-choice Supreme Court Justices like Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas and Chief Justices like John Roberts
* McCain routinely votes to block women's access to abortion care for low-income women, voted for the Federal Abortion Ban, and opposed federal Medicaid funds for abortion even in cases of rape or incest.
* McCain voted to deny abortion services to U.S. military women serving overseas, even when they wish to pay for such services with their own money

McCain's War on Domestic Violence Programs

* Voted against a measure to increase funding for law enforcement programs, including the Office of Violence Against Women programs and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children
* Opposed grant programs to aid children who have witnessed domestic violence

4. Excellent
I said before that Hillary will have to publicly support Obama, but it's the things like this behind the scenes that are the best indication of whether there's a stealth campaign for 2012. This, combined with her decision to release her delegates and a few other things, help to assuage my fears, though the continued mention of the popular vote is disturbing to me.

8. The continued LIE of her "winning" the popular vote disturbs me, too.
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 07:21 PM by Zhade
The clinton dead-enders willing to discount caucus states and give Obama nothing for MI are hip-deep in hypocrisy.

Fortunately, the number of people still pushing that lie are now, what, a few dozen?

6. How in the hell is this newsworthy?
I'm de-facto President of Students for Obama at my school. If I have a sudden change of heart and threaten to support McCain, will Politico write an article about me?
