Opiate For the Mrs.

You're U.S. Senator John McCain, and you've got a big problem.
Your wife, Cindy, was addicted to prescription painkillers. She stole pills from a medical-aid charity she heads and she used the names of unsuspecting employees to get prescriptions. The public is about to find out about it.
Until now, you've managed to keep it all quiet. When Tom Gosinski, a man your wife fired, sued for wrongful termination and threatened to expose the whole sordid story, you didn't hesitate to call in the big guns.

snip

Here's what the senator does.
He calls in another big gun, political strategist Jay Smith, who conceives a rather remarkable plan.

snip

But after a week, there is no glossing over huge gaps in the image that has been spun for the public:

• Cindy McCain lied about drug treatment she claims to have undergone. Although she told reporters she went into a residential drug treatment program earlier this year, she told investigators she had treatment during 1991 and 1992. Whom did she lie to--investigators or reporters?

much more.... http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1994-09-08/news/opiate-for-the-mrs/

It's time to hit back. They want to hit Michelle, then we hit Cindy 4x as hard!

1. as a person in recovery
I'm a little apprehensive about this tactic but as a democrat one must ask the question-would it stop them? No

2. It's not the illness, it's the corruption behind it. I remember very well when it happened.
No one criticized her for the addiction, but this was the first local story that really covered the cover up.

3. and hey blonde
this is truth...one of the reasons a person like me could NEVER be a politician because I would EXPECT this stuff to come out...so yea it's fair game and as I said if Michelle was stealing scripts NOTHING would stop the likes of Hannity and O'Reilly and Limbaugh (OK well maybe him now) from reporting it and beating it to death EVERY day and night

5. The cover-up adds more insult to the addiction, IMO.
That Cindy's addiction was so shameful that it had to be covered up at all costs.

I can't even imagine what must have gone on in that household when "Cindy's problem" threatened his career. I honestly feel for her. In a recent interview, when asked how John handled her stroke, she said something to the effect of, "well, he had a really hard time understanding it".

McCain sounds like a completely non-supportive tool, IMO.

6. I'm actually in MMT...
So I know how you feel - but their paatern of lies and deception is what we're going after, not the illness itself.

They knew McCain had a "Cindy problem". Most of us have known about it for some time. But those who aren't political junkies like us (i.e. most of the country) are unaware.

So why attack Michelle with bullshit lies when they know the Dems can hit back with real, nasty, truth about Cindy/drugs/theft/cover-up?

I'm surprised they did this. But it'll be interesting to see how they deal with this when the truth about Mrs. Cindy "I've always been proud of my country" McCain is spread far and wide.

10. A lot of political wives have substance abuse problems, and maybe
that's what we should be talking about. Pat Nixon, Betty Ford, and Kitty Dukakis come to mind (and I would find it pretty hard to believe that Laura Bush isn't on something as well). Perhaps this is an opportunity to examine the syndrome, and prescription drug abuse in general.

11. how about showing some class instead and act with some decency.
Yes, some times when the opposition plays dirty you have to knee them in the balls, but really, is that necessary right now?
