Am I the only one who wants Obama on stage as much as possible next to McHundred in ANY FORMAT? |
|
Let me suggest that--as the McCain camp knows--there's a difference between a particular format actually being good for your candidate and that format being the one tiniest hope in hell for your candidate when one tiny hope in hell is all you've got. There is NO format that's good for McCain--as they all know--and only one format in which they think he won't immediately vaporize himself.
Obama will take him apart piece by piece, day after day, if necessary. My guess is that he won't have to. It'll be disaster after McDisaster.
Please oh please let them have Town Halls, debates, dinner parties, bar-b-ques, press conferences, celebrity roasts, and spelling bees side by side. Anything. Just have lots of them.

9. The Mighty Slime Machine were able to kill Kerry successfully. |

People still unfortunately couldn't kick their Reaganite liberal demonization beliefs. Bewsh was painted as plain and simple more likeable than Kerry to the folksy Red Stater set.
As Faux has so far proven, they cannot and will not be able do the same thing to Barack and Michelle without showing their racist slips. And McClown . . . GOD could this guy shoot himself in the foot even further with his constant contradictions, stupid statements and idiotic policies?
Then again, this is the average American voter we're talking about . . .

2. I think the contrast will be breathtaking |
|
And the way McCain keeps going off the rhetorical edge, there are sure to be some interesting moments!

You have articulated my position perfectly!
I could not agree more!
And if Obama can subtly get McCain to lose his temper?
Even better!

4. I just wrote something similar |
|
I think he's going to have a meltdown trying to remember what his current positions are, and get flustered when Obama points out his inconsistencies.

5. That assumes the format isn't designed to prop up McCain and kneecap Obama. |
|
However, if the format was neutral, I would agree with you.

6. McCain does do well in those little townhall settings, better than Obama I think |
|
it's when they get on a stage and read prepared remarks McCain looks like a goon.

7. Don't change a winning strategy. |
|
I think Obama would do well, but who knows.
An election is a contest. As much as the American people would be better off if it was something that you could just look at the issues and debates and make a decision on, that's not how it works. Its a contest.
McCain is trailing and Obama is ahead. McCain has to do something. Maybe he loses more ground in these town hall debates, who knows. But he has to try and do something to get some momentum.
Conversely, as long as Obama is gaining in the polls, it would be foolish to change what's working.
To use a football analogy, Obama's taken a lead and is just running the ball. That doesn't mean that he couldn't win if he starting throwing the ball deep. He might even open up a bigger lead. But, as long as running the ball is working, it would be stupid to start throwing and give your opponent a chance.
If/when McCain begins to gain ground, you'll see Obama change strategies and might take him up on those town hall debates.

8. I agree, as long as the format is set up fairly |

And isn't slanted towards one candidate or the other.

10. He needs to do it at least once ... |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 03:02 PM by hardbop
to put to bed the naysayers who claim he cannot connect with "regular Americans". He needs to be seen as capable of responding to impromptu questions from supporters and those undecided.
If he keeps refusing then its going to look like he has something to hide and that gives more ammunition to those who keep saying that don't "trust" Obama.
And an aside here ... I am sick and tired of hearing people talk about how Obama is an "empty suit" and hasn't done anything. They seem to think that his career began with being a US Senator. Its as if those 8 years working for the state of Illinois didn't count for anything.
