Posting this to show FDL's interpretation of her column; she's rethug through and through.

Noonan: Obama Is An Unpatriotic, Effeminate, Cynical, Immoral, Godless Opportunist
By: Blue Texan Friday June 13, 2008 10:30 am

Today, Nooner bases her entire column on this comparison:

Mr. McCain is the Old America, of course; Mr. Obama the New.

You can see right away where this is headed, don't you?

In the Old America, love of country was natural. You breathed it in. You either loved it or knew you should.

Translation: Obama hates America.

The Old America had big families. You married and had children.

Yup, and apparently, in Old America, it was also customary to dump your disabled wife for a hotter, younger, richer model.

Old America: "We've been here three generations." New America: "You're still here?"

Translation: Obama's not a real American because he's one generation removed from hunting antelopes with spears.

The Old America: Religion is good.

Translation: Obama is a godless heathen.

Mr. McCain is the old world of concepts like "personal honor," of a manliness that was a style of being, of an attachment to the fact of higher principles.

Translation: Obama has no honor and is a big girl.

But this is my favorite passage:

The Old and New define sacrifice differently. An Old America opinion: Abjuring a life as a corporate lawyer and choosing instead community organizing, a job that does not pay you in money but will, if you have political ambitions, provide a base and help you win office, is not precisely a sacrifice...A New America answer: He didn't become a rich lawyer like everyone else—and that was a sacrifice! Old America: Five years in a cage—that's a sacrifice!

Translation: Obama was never a POW; therefore, everything he did in service of his country is a meaningless, cynical contrivance in pursuit of power and money.

And lastly,

Old America: candidates for office wear ties.

Erm...

I can't wait until this election is over.

3. The media.
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 06:31 PM by Renaissance Man
The media, both on the right (and even some on the left) are sick. We've had eight years of leadership under a pretend John Wayne and now want to latch on the heels of someone even worse and more clueless, and it's all because somehow Barack Obama is unpatriotic?

I'll never regret the day I decided NOT to accept a scholarship from West Point. For black men, this country isn't worth the time or service.

4. Only a few weeks ago, Noonan said a few mildly nice things about Obama,
and she was widely posted here and treated as a genuine source of political wisdom.

A few of us protested against the likes of Noonan being dragged into this forum, and we were accused of bitterness, called names, etc.

But anyone with at least two functioning neurons knew that Peg would eventually revert to her true nature. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, and Noonan's gotta slander anybody to the left of Mussolini.

Let this be an object lesson in why it's never good to post fascist propagandists here.

where he gathers neocons to spread their 'rationalizations'...

he just had michael ledine on either this a.m. or yesterday (you know how weekend look-aheads throw off your memory)...

and they were BLATANTLY discussing the 'need' to take action against Iran...down to the actual 'things that need to be done'...

it ain't close to over, folks...

14. Pfft.
'Old America' my ass. Noonan is so stupendously full of shit that if someone bumped into her she'd probably emit a high-pressure fecal spray from her nostrils. Most of my contemporaries come from smaller families (almost everyone I know is one of two or three siblings); this is a generational thing; people have smaller families on average now, not just here but in all of the developed world. And apparently someone needs to remind Noonan that on his mother's side of the family Obama is a 12th generation American whose ancestors fought in WWII, the Civil War and the American Revolution. And if you want to go back to OLD Old America, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin and some of those other Old Americans weren't so keen on religion in general. One has to wonder whether Noonan even stops to think about the arrant nonsense she's writing.

and gets that whistful look on her face. I know she's a Pub, and when she talks about Reagan, she looks & sounds like she's talking about her long lost love! Having said all that, she's a thousand times better tham Ingram, Colter, Matlin, etc!

30. Yulondia.......is that YOU???
You sound just like this so called "friend" of mine who's husband used to work for my husband. We have kept in contact through the years and gee whiz........the e-mails I've been getting from her about Obama have been too graphic for me to copy and paste in here. It has been awful, but you sound like you could be her clone. An overbearing racist piece of shit from West Virginia.I never knew this ignorant hillbilly was so racist.....until Obama won our nomination. Now the hate e-mails just keep pooring in.Poor thing....she just can't IMAGINE having a (N) as our President.Well, she better get used to it because Obama is going to be our next President and YOU better face up to it too! It's this kind of mindset in this country that makes me embarrassed to be an American.I'm really sick to death of the pounding that Obama is getting......only because he is black. :puke:

23. Seems worth giving the (actual) end of that column here:
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 06:48 PM by JohnnyLib2
"Old America: candidates for office wear ties. New America: Not if they're women. Old America: There's a place for formality, even the Beatles wore jackets!

* * *

I weigh this in favor of the Old America. Hard not to, for I remember it, and its sterling virtues. Maybe if you are 25 years old, your sense of the Old and New is different. In the Old America they were not enlightened about race and sex; they accepted grim factory lines and couldn't even begin to imagine the Internet. Fair enough. But I suspect the political playing out of a long-ongoing cultural and societal shift is part of the dynamic this year.

As to its implications for the race, we'll see. America is always looking forward, not back, it is always in search of the fresh and leaving the tried. That's how we started: We left tired old Europe and came to the new place, we settled the east and pushed West to the new place. We like new. It's in our genes. Hope we know where we're going, though."

24. Old America
Old America - women were not journalists or politicians. They stayed home and er, baked cookies.

Old America - "Negroes" sat at the back of the bus and didn't mingle with Whites at the lunch counter.

Translation: Old America was sexist and racist.

Old America - We didn't need no stinkin' welfare

Translation: If you are old or poor or sick you can just die.

Its been like this for the Democratic candidate since at least Mondale/Ferraro in 1984, reaching a peak during the Clinton years. It comes with the territory. Sorry.
