Obama currently leads McCain among Latinos, 62 percent to 28 percent
"There had been some concern among Democrats that, given his poor showing with Latinos in the primaries, Barack Obama might have trouble with the demographic in the general election. That concern has been heightened because John McCain will be representing the Republican Party, and in his party he may be the best candidate for appealing to the Latino community.

But a recent poll, conducted by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, may help put those fears to rest. It showed that Obama currently leads McCain among Latinos, 62 percent to 28 percent. By comparison, according to exit polling, in 2004 John Kerry beat George W. Bush in the demographic 53-44.

One reason for the lack of support for McCain among Latinos may be that the GOP is essentially an anchor tied to his ankle. The party's base has been decidedly anti-immigration, and its tone and rhetoric in 2006 seems to have turned Latinos off."

2. Allow me to make a few substitutions:
There had been some concern among the media that, given his loss in California and New York in the primaries, Barack Obama might have trouble winning those states in the GE.

Makes about as much sense as Obama's alleged "Latino" problem.

3. YES!
This is great. I recently read that Obama is already doing better than Kerry, but in 2004 Bush was doing fairly well among latinos. Not great (I think Bush lost the latino vote in Texas 50-49) but he cut the margins down to 20-30 points. Clinton won the latino vote by a 50-60 pt margin in 1996.

Either way, this is great to see a 34 pt margin. And wait until this election goes into high gear.

7. Clinton voters are holding their noses
and going for Obama. I hope he appreciates this and doesn't forget their
issues. If he does, he will be toast in 2012.

13. Clinton's issues ARE Obama's issues.
Unless a person only supported Clinton because of her votes on IWR and Kyl-Lieberman, Clinton and Obama have nearly identical voting records.

Only war-supporters need 'hold their noses'.

18. How are "Clinton voters issues"
any different than Obama voters issues?! No war, fix the economy, remove the riches' tax cuts, mend the environment, womens' and other groups' rights...I think they are the same issues. I think this separatism needs to end and this party needs to become united. We have a hell of an evil enemy to trounce! Can we just finally please be THE Democratic Party again. One thing I did detest about Hillary was her and Bill's ability to polarize. That is not good for the sum of the whole.

8. Not surprising, Latinos know McCain caved to people who sound almost racist from their rhetoric
I've felt for a while that McCain may get 5 to 10 percent more of the Latino vote then the other GOPers, but that McCain's flip flopping on immigration was going to hurt him with Hispanics. I mean seriously, just watch news stories where people protest against illegal immigration, the signs they hold, and some of the stuff they say, often sound almost racist to me, and I'm not even a Hispanic.
