For those too young to remember, this was sort of a radical song in it's time. Particularly, the beginning.

Ends up being kind of romantic...

Is there a way we can work together to deflate the coming "scary blackness" of Barack Obama???

If we have to apologize for blackness... we are truly screwn!!!

Here's another favorite of mine:

16. How about DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE.
I've been watching TPM videos on Republicans and am becoming more and more disgusted by the MSM.

I remember being much more cynical in the 1980s with Reagan than I have been under Bush. I don't know exactly how to express how irritated I am that Fox News is considered to be a news channel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASjH7X-jAY4&

PE has a reference to Farrakahn earlier that I didn't remember in the 80s. I watched this film on Henry Rollins in the 80s too and its discussion on what being the counterculture was about at the time.

I know Marvin Gaye didn't have too many parallels in the 1970s, but can any of us say we have a parallel to HR or PE in 2000s?

2. Oh my God, Barack Obama is *black*? Why didn't someone tell me? Why the hell did we nominate him?!!
I don't know what the heck we were thinking, nominate a black man for president. Jesus, people, we really need to sit down and think these things through before just up and willy nilly going about giving away our nominations like that.

Man, looks like I owe Hillary Clinton one whopping big apology. She's was right all alo-- Wait a minute... Wait just one minute there... It just occurred to me. Hillary Clinton is a woman!

14. I thought about that a few weeks ago, actually...
What will some of the long time WH staff think? I don't know, but it seems like a black man or woman who's worked there for years will have to have some sort of an interesting perspective.

Not to imagine the impact of Sasha and Malia...

8. And... From Stevie Wonder... "Black Man"...
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 10:48 PM by WillyT
Soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEoE2UQXduA

Lyrics:

First man to die
For the flag we now hold high (Crispus Attucks)
Was a black man

The ground were we stand
With the flag held in our hand
Was first the redman's

Guide of a ship
On the first Columbus trip (Pedro Alonzo Nino)
Was a brown man

The railroads for trains
Came on tracking that was laid
By the yellow man

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

Heart surgery
Was first done successfully
By a black man (Dr Daniel Hale Williams)

Friendly man who died
But helped the pilgrims to survive (Squanto)
Was a redman

Farm workers rights
Were lifted to new heights (Caesar Chavez)
By a brown man

Incandescent light
Was invented to give sight (Thomas Edison)
By the white man

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

Here me out...

Now I know the birthday of a nation
Is a time when a country celebrates
But as your hand touches your heart
Remember we all played a part in America
To help that banner wave

First clock to be made
In America was created
By a black man (Benjamin Banneker)

Scout who used no chart
Helped lead Lewis and Clark
Was a redman (Sacagawea)

Use of martial arts
In our country got its start
By a yellow man

And the leader with a pen
Signed his name to free all men
Was a white man (Abraham Lincoln)

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

This world was made for all men
This world was made for all men
This world was made for all men
God saved His world for all men
All people
All babies
All children
All colors
All races
This world's for you
and me
This world
My world
Your world

This world
Their world
Our world
This world was made for all men

9. Just stop talking about color and elect get the HUMAN BEING elected.
He ain't my first choice, but he seems like a good man who has his shit together. Lets just concentrate on electing him with overwhelming numbers to overcome the Repulicker election fraud like we did in with fairly good sucess in 2006 and then bend him to our will.

Whadaya say?

11. When people stop obsessing over his race and stop attempting to turn him into
The Scary Black Man, then we can stop talking about it. He tried not to run on his race but the media and others keep reminding us that he's black. If society cannot get over this obsession with race and skin color, then we can never move past it.

Do you remember how relentless the right was on Gore and Kerry?

They really are organized. I worked at a place that ran Fox 24/7 and people absorbed it even if they didn't lean that way. Why leave that impression unchallenged.

13. personally I like Farrakhan... I LOVED the Black Panther Party and....
I thought the SDS was too establishment and declined to join

I've never cared for liberalism, per se... considering myself more philosophically aligned with Sol Alinsky

I think the hijacking of the media has just changed public perception too much... we can't let it get us down

Imagine what it was like for great organizers and progressives in the sixties on the heels of the McCarthyite, fascist fifties eh?

Let those folks be our role models of perseverance and moral certitude

They've always rewritten history, even as it was happening... lionizing Nixon and Reagan... smearing good Democrats like Jerry Brown and Howard Dean...

The struggle never ends

17. It's not his blackness that scares them....
It's his arab-ness. At the pro-Hillary boards some estimate
he is 50% white, and something like 7% black and 43% arab,
more or less. Hence they are clamoring for his original birth
certificate. I believe they think the race category will list
"terrorist".
