Elected Clinton delegate plans to vote for McCain
Will someone please tell this asshat to get over herself? She should lose her delegate status. :banghead:

~snip~

As an avid supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Debra Bartoshevich is not alone in her frustration over Clinton's defeat.

She's not alone in refusing to support Barack Obama.

And she's not entirely alone in saying she'll vote this fall for Republican John McCain instead.

But what makes her unusual is that she holds these views as an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer.

"I'm sure people are going to be upset with me. I don't want to lose my national delegate status," says Bartoshevich, a 41-year-old emergency room nurse who is a convention delegate, pledged to Clinton, from Waterford in Racine County.

You shouldn't be able to have it both damned ways. Who the hell are you serving, nurse Bartoshevich?

10. I can't wrap my head around that statement. If she can't vote for Obama she needs to give up status
and quit the party, that's the honorable thing to do, pure and simple.

3. This is making the news because she is one of a few. It happens, in a country of 300million
there will be a handful that do this kind of thing.

I think it's inappropriate given that she is an elected delegate and I hope she is stripped of her status.

4. My mother forwarded an email that links to a 'Clintons for McLame' website
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 08:22 AM by Lasher
Republicans are trying to use websites like that to make it seem that a significant number of bitter Clinton supporters will vote against Obama. That won't happen. Obama's lead in the polls over McSame started to increase around June 1, when it became clear who the Democratic nominee would be. This trend will continue over time as party divisions continue to heal during the next 5 months.

5. There is a move to unseat her right now by the Wisconsin Dem. Party
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 08:43 AM by Ichingcarpenter
She made her announcement public to the national press to support McCain
thereby breaking her vow and the rules of the Wisconsin Democratic by laws.

16. It should not be difficult - the delegates are subject to approval by the candidate they represent
I'm not sure if she's Clinton or Obama's delegate now but whichever one it is they can have her replaced.

20. I think Obama/Clinton camps only have approval/rejection rights prior to that election.
Other rules will or have come into play regarding this renegade delegate.

Direct Democracy

Sat Jun 14, 2008 at 09:14:05 AM EST

Wisconsin democrats voted yesterday to strip Debra Bartoshevich's status as a delegate to the national convention late Friday evening. DNC and state party rules state that delegates that oppose the party's nominee will not be permitted to attend party convention as a delegate.

8. She should definitely be barred from the convention...

...not just lose her status as a delegate. They should post her picture on the "Do not admit these people" list at the entrance to the convention.

It's a free country and she can cast her vote as she pleases. But what she is saying is diametrically opposed to the goals of the democratic party.

It's pretty much like a member of the NAACP saying, "I think we should go back to segregation or a GLAAD official saying "I favor anti-sodomy legislation."

They really should dump this person right away. The policy on party traitors should be clear and direct.

13. Let her. She doesn't obviously believe in gender rights or civil rights
she obviously doesn't care if scalia's or thomas's like judges control the supreme court. She obviously doesn't care about healthcare, social security, or the Iraq War

Shw obviously could care less if jobs are lost, or about the high cost of food and energy a direct result of the Iraq War

She could care less about the saftey net social security and medicare provide

It is way past due that these individuals who have called themselves democrats, actully expose themseleve, and go to the party that represent their values

The Democrats DO NOT NEED THEM. They do not need bigots, sexists, and idiots. Those individuals belong in what has become of the republican party today, standing beside the hannitys, limbaughs, becks, buchanans, etc.

As far as I am concerned, my message to them is don't let the door hit your ass on the way out

Incidently, the polls reflect just the opposite, most people that call themseleves Democrats, will vote Democratic

This is a much needed self-cleansing act which is good for the Democratic party

14. She's a dumbass
.... for saying that.

But if I understand correctly, I think she's talking about the general election. Even though she's clearly wrongheaded, nobody has any "obligations" to vote a particular way in the GE. As long as she votes properly at the convention, it's nobody's business how she votes in the GE, and I wish she'd kept it that way.

22. The analogy...for those who don't get it.
I've seen people on this defending this asshat.

So let's say a new Pope is elected, and one Cardinal says, "No, I can't possibly take direction from the new Pope, so I'm converting to the Episcopal Church. But I'd still like to retain all the authority I had as Bishop."

FWIW the State Convention is this weekend. A Hillary Delegate introduce a motion asking the DNC to refuse to seat the delegate. The motion passed unanimously.

She should be joining the Lieberman Party of assholes that support McCain.

It is up to the Hillary campaign to remove her as a delegate and replace her with someone that will not vote for a man that will fill the Supreme Court with a bunch of fascist Scalias.

"I just feel you need to have somebody who has experience with foreign matters," she said.

Maybe between now and then she will learn that Obama and McCain have about the same amount of foreign policy experience: not much. As Wes Clark said, sitting around as a POW does not give you foreign policy experience. I don't know what she thought Clinton had in this area, either.
