Elected Clinton delegate plans to vote for McCain

She's not alone in refusing to support Barack Obama.

And she's not entirely alone in saying she'll vote this fall for Republican John McCain instead.

But what makes her unusual is that she holds these views as an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer.

"I'm sure people are going to be upset with me. I don't want to lose my national delegate status," says Bartoshevich, a 41-year-old emergency room nurse who is a convention delegate, pledged to Clinton, from Waterford in Racine County.

Republicans are trying to use websites like that to make it seem that a significant number of bitter Clinton supporters will vote against Obama. That won't happen. Obama's lead in the polls over McSame started to increase around June 1, when it became clear who the Democratic nominee would be. This trend will continue over time as party divisions continue to heal during the next 5 months.

She made her announcement public to the national press to support McCain
thereby breaking her vow and the rules of the Wisconsin Democratic by laws.

Wisconsin democrats voted yesterday to strip Debra Bartoshevich's status as a delegate to the national convention late Friday evening. DNC and state party rules state that delegates that oppose the party's nominee will not be permitted to attend party convention as a delegate.

...not just lose her status as a delegate. They should post her picture on the "Do not admit these people" list at the entrance to the convention.

It's a free country and she can cast her vote as she pleases. But what she is saying is diametrically opposed to the goals of the democratic party.

It's pretty much like a member of the NAACP saying, "I think we should go back to segregation or a GLAAD official saying "I favor anti-sodomy legislation."

They really should dump this person right away. The policy on party traitors should be clear and direct.

But if I understand correctly, I think she's talking about the general election. Even though she's clearly wrongheaded, nobody has any "obligations" to vote a particular way in the GE. As long as she votes properly at the convention, it's nobody's business how she votes in the GE, and I wish she'd kept it that way.

FWIW the State Convention is this weekend. A Hillary Delegate introduce a motion asking the DNC to refuse to seat the delegate. The motion passed unanimously.
