Whoops! McCain Campaign Plays Song Written By Obama-Backing Dem Congressman
By Eric Kleefeld - June 13, 2008, 1:19PM

Is this John McCain's idea of bipartisanship?

At a campaign rally in New Hampshire yesterday, the McCain campaign played the classic 1970s song "Still The One" over the loudspeakers. One problem: The principal author of the song, John Hall, is a freshman Democratic Congressman from New York who is supporting Barack Obama.

Hall reacted strongly in an interview with NBC News, saying the GOP should immediately stop using his song: "The only one John McCain is 'Still the One' for is George Bush."

Back in 2004, Hall sent cease-and-desist letters to the Bush campaign after they played the song at a rally of theirs, and his wishes that they stop were quickly honored.

1. Typical
Repugs think they own every damned thing anyway. I hope McNasty gets slapped upside his overdeveloped sense of entitlement.

2. The thing that needs to be publicized is the McCain campaign's response to this.
"We will take his concerns under consideration. Beyond that, we have no other comment."

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/13/1138458.aspx

They will "take his concerns under consideration?" They violated the law! What is there to consider? How about fess up to it, apologize and quit using the song? Wouldn't that be the lawful thing to do?

13. I *think* as long as they pay him for it, they can use it.
(Someone who knows this area, please correct me if I'm wrong).

But it's unbelievably stupid to do so.

17. If they take that attitude then there's no
bounds to what John Hall can do to publicize his zinger retort..

"The only one John McCain is 'Still the One' for is George Bush."

because the author supported Obama? I can't remember the other two off the top of my head.

12. You know what?
He won't. That's the really sick twist to this relationship. Once Joey can't be trotted out as a pet Democrat and is no longer useful, he'll be dropped completely. I have no problem with that, myself - he should find himself playing Mr. Lonely. He's shown that he's not to be trusted.

But he's foolish if he thinks he means anything to these rw-ers. He doesn't; they just see him as a useful symbol.

9. To clarify...
You DO mean Senator John McCain and not Rep. John Hall.

Rep. John Hall is the one who notified the McCain campaign that they where illegally using a copyrighted song.
