Obama in Philadelphia, "We don't have a choice but to win."
Senator Obama is working hard in Philadelphia and Ohio to pay respects to Clinton surrogates and supporters.

Here are two reports from Philadelphia where our nominee made it clear that he intends to fight hard and win.

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

Obama Philadelphia fund-raiser features Clinton backers Nutter, Rendell

Rendell told the crowd that some Obama supporters brought him a big carton of Kool-Aid and told him to "drink up” when Obama became the nominee."I gave Sen. Clinton $1,500 in the primary so I thought just for old-time sake I'd give Sen. Obama $1,499," Rendell said, sparking scattered boos from the crowd. The governor calmed them by saying "that was before I drank the Kool-Aide." He said that he has a check for $2,300 to give the Obama campaign.

"We're going to make sure this doesn't bounce," Obama said as he took the podium.

Obama thanked Casey first and said he was "one of the finest men in politics" who "stood with me when it was really a tough time to stand with me."He then said it was a "relief" to have Ed Rendell ("a man who has no shortage for words") on his side. "How many cable shows can you be on at one time?" Obama asked Rendell, adding that he is "one of the finest governors in the country."

Obama praised Clinton, aware that he was flanked by some of her most diehard political supporters. He said that when he met with Clinton last week he said to her: "You're the only one who knows what I've gone through and I'm the only one who knows what you've gone through

He said that Philadelphia needs change. "We don't have a choice but to win."

Clinton Supporters Drinking the Obama Kool-Aid?

At least one of them is. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, one of Clinton’s most diehard supporters during the primary season introduced Sen. Barack Obama at a Philadelphia fundraiser on Friday night. Rendell told the crowd that some Obama supporters brought him a big carton of Kool-Aid and told him to “drink up” when Obama became the nominee.“I gave Sen. Clinton $1,500 in the primary so I thought just for old-time sake I’d give Sen. Obama $1,499,” Rendell said, sparking scattered boos from the crowd. The outspoken governor calmed them by saying “don’t worry, that was before I drank the Kool-Aid.” He gave the Obama campaign a check for $2,300.

“We’re going to make sure this doesn’t bounce,” Obama said as he took the podium.

Earlier Friday Obama held an event with senior citizens in Columbus with Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland who campaigned vigorously for Clinton, helping her win the state in March by 10 percentage points. Obama gave a special thank you to Casey at the Philly fundraiser and said he was “one of the finest men in politics” who “stood with me when it was really a tough time to stand with me.”

He then said it was a “relief” to have Gov. Rendell (”a man who has no shortage for words”) on his side. “How many cable shows can you be on at one time?” Obama asked Rendell, adding that he is “one of the finest governors in the country.”(Rendell made an endless loop on the nightly news making his case for the former first lady.)

Obama, aware that he was flanked by some of Clinton’s most diehard political supporters, praised his former rival. He said that when he met with Clinton last week he said to her: “You’re the only one who knows what I’ve gone through and I’m the only one who knows what you’ve gone through.”When asked how he feels about how it switching allegiances to Obama, Rendell said “he’s a good man.” The governor said he spoke to Clinton on Thursday and Saturday after her concession speech. “She was in good spirits,” he said.

1. Good post, grantcart. At this early stage of the summer season, I accuse
the Obama campaign of good, sound politics.

4. Yep -- McCain seems to think he has a chance using traditional tactics
but I think the Obama offensive unit is unprecedented.

It's going to be a long dreary November night for a lot of Republicans.

6. I believe Philadelphia
I think it was a fund raiser for big pocket Clinton supporters to get on board.

10. Ah. That would explain why I didn't hear anything about it.
Though I'm in Philly, I'm neither "big pocket" nor a Clinton supporter.

;)

I wonder if there were two separate events? Pockets are DEEP on the Main Line. They will come on board, because none of them want a Repube administration. When I was there just after the primaries, I'd say the Obama signs in Wynnewood & areas were 6:1 (Obama vs. Clinton) But my guess is that there are also a lot of Obamacons too, I saw only a smattering of McCan't signs. Quite refreshing!

12. Obama will play this game with a sense of desperation
and I mean that in a good way. He knows what's riding on this election and he actually cares more about what a loss would mean for people who need help than what it would mean for him personally. That's what I believe.

13. I disagree with your choice of words--not desperation.
Rather, an intense, unwavering focus on the goal. He never, ever loses sight of what he's doing, and why.

15. we used to call this 'Russian Rules" never give up, never slow down, never let up
He has a hunger for this that is unusual for someone that is also so cerebral.

16. I like what he said about Clinton supporters
I continue to be impressed by his strong empathy. He is consistent in that regard. It is one of his very best qualities.

17. Yes he is very disciplined

I think it goes back to that "your likeable enough" quip.

He knew that it was funny in a room with 3 people but it was a cheap shot in front of 10 million.

Ever since that he has been very focused on his message, very deliberate.
