Can we all agree a person is a stupid ass if they vote based on race?
If we can, then can we also agree we must root out and expose all attempts by McCain, RNC, Bush, local GOP, and others to use hints and code words to make it about race?

If some people who sort of fall into a reasonable category and don't spend much time around minorities are exposed to an outright racist attack, they will usually reject it out of hand due to the great progress our country has made.

But if the scum of the earth "marketing" aka propaganda wing of the GOP can salt their language with scare words like "he's different" and "maybe he's American??" etc. then some of those people will feel they have reason to be concerned. It is still racism and "fear of other" but it is packaged in a way they can swallow.

THis is a GREAT time to have this conversation. It's not Islam that is causing terrorism. It's not all Arabs who are bad. Thes are all easy buckets and sterotypes and we must help defuse these ALONG WITH helping define Barack Obama as he truly is. He's a mixed race American who grew up as an American and who has endured racism but also enjoyed the benefits of being an American. He is capable--far more capable than McCain and in a couple of leagues above Bush in capability to run this country and to do it in a truly patriotic way.

Barack loves this country's people. Bush only loves the top 0.1%

1. We can agree that I no longer want to interact with mean people and
voting based on race is mean. It's small minded and it's a severe character defect.

2. this is the point I want to drum up not only here but across the whole news spectrum
let's talk about it directly you network news BITCHES (I know this word offends. But I mean they are craven in their desire to NOT take on issues directly).

Let's just get it out there. The more those inbred whelps can be caught on TV saying directly racist and backward things about why they wouldn't vote for Obama, it helps the Obama camp in swing states like Ohio, Michigan, New Mexico, etc.

We need people like Richardson and other Latinos to talk about the sting of racism in their lives. We need a multiple run of Obama's TRUE LIFE STORY on A&E Biography.

You don't know him yet? Not sure about him, idiots? It's pretty dam easy. pick up a remote or go to google. Go find out what's really happening with the issues.

Because we win on the issues. The only way McCain has a bloody chance in hell is to attack him as a person. To redefine Obama as something he's not.

Let's show the old guard idiots of this country that it is trendy to vote like it matters. Throwing your vote away on old fears and hatreds is for dried out old 20th century losers.

3. I gotta say this
Many on the right will claim that a sizeable portion of Obama's support comes because he is a black man. They'll ask if those who will vote for him specifically for that reason are small-minded and "stupid-ass"?

You really can't make such a broad claim without thinking how it will be thrown back in your face by the McCain campaign.

4. well, they are. let's put it this way.....
I don't think Black people would be running out to pull the lever for Alan Keyes if he had made it as the nominee for Republicans. There's a mind bender to imagine. A black man as GOP nominee? BAHAHHAHA! (well, it MIGHT have happened with Powell had he chosen to run in 2000).

I digress.

I guess you know my focus was...."if a person REFUSED to vote for a person because of the color of their skin, etc. that is small minded".

However, I would say it is also small minded to vote FOR someone merely on race issues. Does that make sense?

They can feel free to throw it back at us. I doubt they would. Race is a subject people like McCain aren't eager to take on directly.

5. I agree. . .
Every single American that votes for ANYONE because the skin color of the candidate is
like theirs is an abject FOOL. People should ONLY be voting the issues.

No disagreement whatsoever from me on this.

7. Dog whistles ....... there will be LOTS of dog whistles .....
Political dog whistles are code words that mean something to one's target audience, but may go unheard by those not in the target audience.

Obama's race and his middle name will be among the dog whistle sounds. We need to be listening very carefully to spot it and call it out for what it is.

8. Expect a nonstop series of increasingly vicious
thinly disguised racist verbal attacks on Obama by McCain surrogates throughout the campaign. It's all they have.

They'll do everything in their power to play to people's fears and prejudices. By the time they're done, they'll have Obama morphing into Willie Horton. I wouldn't put anything past these thugs.

10. Oh no, PretzelWarrior, we must "reach out" to them.
Wouldn't want to "alienate" them by pointing out their stupid bigotry. BTW, they are not racists, they are "hard working Americans". :sarcasm:

12. I don't think a black person is a stupid ass for wanting a
black person in office to theoretically best look after their interests.

I totally understand why so many black people voted for Obama.

If there were a gay candidate running for something important, I'm not going to lie...he or she would probably get my vote because I'd expect them to take care of me.

In some ways, it's selfish.

But it's the truth.

14. I don't think I can agree with the OP...
I think there are many AA voting for Obama because it is the first real chance of an AA becoming CIC, and I would not call them a stupid ass for doing it. I understand the intention behind your OP, I just think it paints with too broad a stroke.
