1. Florida Democrats seek Obama unity at fundraiser
http://www.bradenton.com/breakingnews/story/676661.html

The Florida Democratic Party are making a huge effort to unify activists behind Barack Obama after more than a year of drama over the state's primary and the prolonged battle to see who would secure the nomination.

It's pretty much working.

More than 1,400 attended the state party's annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner and there were plenty of signs, stickers and buttons for Obama. Speaker after speaker urged the crowd to get behind the Illinois senator whether or not they supported Hillary Clinton.

"The truth of the matter is, my friends, those of you who supported Hillary Clinton are in many ways the most important people in the room," said U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler. "We understand how hard you worked, we understand how emotional and passionate you all are."

But now, Wexler said, Democrats have to come together as a family and Clinton supporters need to work just as hard for Obama. The crowd's response was less than raucous, but there were certainly signs that party activists were moving forward after a nearly evenly divided primary.

2. Barack helps flood preparation efforts in Quincy, IL
I remember that Bush and McCain were celebrating McCain's birthday while New Orleans drowned.
Oh, and things are very bad in Iowa and other midwestern states. Levees have broken. Even the University of Iowa has been hit by the flood.

Barack helps flood preparation efforts in Quincy, IL
The Jed Report Sat Jun 14, 7:45 PM

Here's a brief video

I've been hoping that Barack would do something like this for the past several days, and I'm really pleased, both on a political level, and also on a substantive level, that he decided to go to Quincy today.

It's easy to be cynical about photo ops, but I think in cases like this, it's less important why you've done something than that you've done something. No matter how many sandbags he personally fills, today Barack Obama undoubtedly inspired many others to support the flood preparation and relief efforts. (Via BarackObama.com, the campaign is urging supporters to offer their help through the American Red Cross.)

3. McCain says it's 'tough' to proud of America

Whoops!

Sat Jun 14, 6:45 PM Jed Report
McCain says it's 'tough' to proud of America

In one fell swoop, John McCain has neutralized one of the most potent lines of attack against Michelle Obama, telling a questioner at a town hall event that he feels "it's tough, it's tough in some respects" to be proud of his country. Jonathan Martin delivers the goods (emphasis added):

So a man finally got a question into McCain and he had a very different sort of question.

The questioner noted that he had been educated at Princeton and Harvard and made more than $300,000 a year.

"How can I be proud of my country?" he asked.

Get it — he was mocking Michelle Obama and her statement earlier this year that her husband had for the first time in her life made her proud of her country.

Well, McCain either missed the joke or decided to ignore it and answer the question literally. I think it was the former because the individual asking the question had a thick accent that sounded to be either Indian or Pakistani, perhaps suggesting to McCain a recent immigrant grappling with America's image abroad.

"I’ll admit to you that it’s tough, it’s tough in some respects," McCain said, seeming to lend credence to Michelle Obama's observation.

McCain said America needed to be "more humble, more inclusive."

4. Symbolic, isn't it? Sen McCain fundraiser: Rape is like the weather.....?????
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 12:37 AM by WillYourVoteBCounted
This explains alot of things the right wing does!Note that this is an "oil man" and they are used to screwing all of us.

This is not OK.
Cross-posted from The Back Forty By Tracy Russo at The Field June 14, 2008

ABC News is reporting that John McCain was “forced” to cancel a fundraiser with Texas oilman Clayton Williams.

The same Texas Republican who, while running for Governor against the late great Ann Richards, was quoted saying:

“Rape is like the weather, if it’s inevitable relax and enjoy it.”

I’m almost too outraged to even write this post. A man who has such a disgustingly cavalier attitude towards something as horrific, violating and criminal as the rape of a woman has no place in politics, let alone polite society. This is a man who should be shunned by anyone with a conscience. That includes Senator McCain.

It’s not enough that Senator McCain cancels an event because the media got wind of it.

It’s not enough.

Senator McCain should publicly reject and denounce this man.

6. Fox forced to apologise to Obama for third time in two weeks
US elections: Fox forced to apologise to Obama for third time in two weeks Ewen MacAskill in Washington guardian.co.uk, Friday June 13 2008

Rupert Murdoch's Fox News television station has been forced to apologise to Barack Obama for the third time in a fortnight after screening a racially tinged caption referring to his wife Michelle as his "baby mama".

Bill Shine, senior vice president of programming at Fox, said in a statement on Thursday that a producer "exercised poor judgment" during the segment.

The statement came as Obama established a website to help counter what he referred to as smears and rumours.

One of his first moves was to defend Michelle by debunking a persistent rumour that there is a video showing her speaking from the pulpit of the Trinity church in Chicago in which she allegedly refers to whites as "whitey". He said she had never spoken at Trinity or used such a phrase

10. Hello! This could fliip Florida to Obama!!
Youtube pwns him again.

McCain wants social security diverted into stock markets. He can parse his words at "Town Halls" loaded with select "supporters" but he can't hide from the "internets".

Social security was "invented" as part of the "New Deal" after following the "Great Depression" and the stock market crash of 1929. Social Security was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1935

This could flip Florida to Obama

Wait'll they hear this at the Villages of the Damned. The Red Hat Society will turn into Ye Olde Order
of the Torch and Pitchfork faster than you can say "early bird special."

The Great Depression was a dramatic, worldwide economic downturn beginning in some countries as early as 1928.<1> The beginning of the Great Depression in the United States is associated with the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday and the end is associated with the onset of the war economy of World War II, beginning around 1939.

13. Michelle Obama Watch
Michelle Obama Watch

Michelle Obama Watch is a nonpartisan effort to monitor the media’s treatment and depiction of Michelle Obama, the most visible African American woman in popular culture. Michelle Obama Watch will become the repository of the good, the bad, the ugly and the indifferent.

They even had to put up a "Wee Michelles" to handle the crap being flung at the girls.

Pretty good website though. Makes you wonder about some of the nasties out there though.

This is it. THIS is why I'm proud to support Obama.By burnedoutdem - June 13, 2008

I just received this email from the Obama campaign.

We need your help right now.

In Quincy, Illinois and surrounding areas, the river is expected to crest on Monday or Tuesday.

There are emergency sandbagging operations going on right now and
public officials have put out a call for all available volunteers. Your
help is desperately needed.

The widespread flooding in the Midwest has affected millions of
people. We have an opportunity to use our grassroots movement to make a
real impact at a time of urgent need.

If you can assist, please travel to one of these areas this weekend:

QUINCY, IL

Oakley-Lindsey Civic Center
South 3rd St. and Kentucky St.
Quincy, IL 62301

Saturday and Sunday, June 14th - 15th

6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to come through the north doors of the
Oakley-Lindsey Center. Everyone will be asked to sign a registration
sheet as they enter and leave so the city can keep track of the
volunteer service.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, gloves and sturdy shoes.

NIOTA, IL

If you'd like to help sandbag in Niota you can call Hancock County emergency services at 217-357-6004 for more information.

URSA, IL

Volunteers are still needed in Ursa. The operation is underway
at Shaffer Farm, along the Ursa blacktop road, 1/8 mile west of the
North Bottoms Road.

Volunteers are also requesting cold bottled water for those who are working.

More information on volunteering in this area:

http://my.barackobama.com/floodvolunteer

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected by the recent flooding through the Midwest.

If you are not able to make it to Quincy but would like to help, visit the American Red Cross to donate to their relief efforts or find out how to get involved.

Thanks,

Obama for America

I've never been asked for anything by any politician besides money. I've never received an email that was about anything but politics - who said what about whom - or policy.

Maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but the campaign is using its donor list to get help for folks who really need it right now, and I am so proud to be on that list. I can't explain it fully, but...I'm glad this person will be President in a few short months.

After 9/11 our "president" only asked us to shop. For the first time in my life I'm proud of a leader I elected.
