McCain reaching out to women
The flap comes as McCain's campaign reaches out to women and to backers of Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton. McCain began a women-focused outreach effort in recent days, sending a well-known female supporter, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, to campaign in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

"I respect and admire the campaign she ran," McCain said Saturday on a telephone town hall meeting. "Every place I go, I'm told that Senator Clinton inspired millions of young women in this country. And not necessarily young women; she inspired a whole generation of young people in this country."

The forum featured questioners, nearly all of them women, who identified themselves as Democrats and independents; McCain's campaign said many were Clinton supporters. McCain also took questions from an in-person audience of about 35 people at his Northern Virginia campaign headquarters; no journalists were present.

One woman pressed McCain on whether he would commit to increase the number of women in government. McCain answered, "I want to assure you with confidence, at the end of my first term, you will see a dramatic increase of women in every part of the government of my administration."

2. If there were no journalists, how is this a verified story? Bit ridiculous.

"journalists" would definitely tell the truth of what they witnessed firsthand, but regular people who were there telling "journalists" what transpired cannot be trusted...

riiiiiight....

13. ok... perhaps a journalist bribed a participant to sneak in a recorder?
Otherwise, the statement is a memory, and it is not verbatim.. Ask how many people can identify what color pants a bank robber was wearing, and the police come up with 5 different colors.. The reason why journalists are present is because they normally have those fancy things called cameras and recording devices... this way, they can replay and re-analyse or whatever... Who knows what the man is saying to a small group of women dems and indie's... AND is this how he's going to operate.. behind closed doors without the public present? Seems too similar to what is happening now.

12. Stephanie Miller read a litany Friday
of examples of his offensive behavior - toward just about everyone - including pretty much every swearword a sailor could come up with.

Use of that term toward his wife in front of reporters is appalling, but not necessarily indicative of deep-seated misogyny. Rather, he is just an obnoxious, short-tempered jerk who insults any and everyone, regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation.

So women should like him just as much as everyone else - which is to say they should avoid him like the plague

5. Polls show we need to educate women like that about McCain's real stands on important issues to them
A few weeks ago, maybe longer I forget, there was a poll conducted that found that most of the Clinton supporters who claimed they would vote for McCain over Obama have no idea about McCain's true position on issues important to them. For example most of them have no idea that McCain has consistently opposed abortions his whole life. There's a number of other issues to that a large number of those Clinton McCain supporters have false beliefs about McCain's true position, issues important enough to them that that they'd likely have second thoughts about McCain.

7. When mccain tells you he will put judges like scalia and thomas on the supreme court
that should tell you everything you need to know about mccain's view on gender rights

His voting record should tell you everything you need to know about his position on civil rights, the Iraq War, healthcare, medicare, his vote against he GI Bill, jobs, social security, medicare, the economy, and so many other issues that will have an negative impact

16. I don't want just *any* women in government. McCain would appoint a bunch of Ann Coulter wannabes.
I don't understand this brand of feminism, where *any* woman is better than a man. I want more women in government, but I want exceptional women, just as I want exceptional men. And if it came down to it, I'd rather have an exceptional man than Ann Coulter.

17. Don't forget he would pay them less than males thus saving the Govt

Money!!!!!!! (since he voted against equal pay for women)

But saving even more he could outsource our government to India by doing
the HP computer company plan

18. Let me see now...A phone conference with an unknown number of people
NEARLY all of them women identified as democrats and independents
MANY were Clinton supporters

Then in the same paragraph: there was an audience of 35 people, of untold gender, at his VA campaign headquarters w/no journalists, and the question of the day was would he increase women in goverment.

Hidden beneath that crap I still smell the failure.

fuck up HP and get the ax? I seem to recall someone telling me about her when she was on some talk show. If this is the same person she's a total fuck-up.
