Even Stephanie Miller is boo hooing over Russert
They are saying what a fine journalist he was. And playing clips of McSame praising him.

1. They're from the same home town.
Stephanie said that now all Buffalo NY has to be proud of is her and Wolf Blitzer.

8. that kind of says it all, doesn't it? Ignorant of history she's forgotten Millard Filmore.
I just had to give up listening to Miller.

She knows perfectly well that as hometown heroes go, she doesn't hold a candle to Russert--or Fillmore, for that matter. Which is why I'll never give her up.

2. The amount of coverage applied to this shows just what the media has become
yes, it is a sad event, but what are we really talking about here?

Is the overextended coverage of his passing as important as Iraq, the economy, jobs, healthcare, social security, medicare, the Supreme Court, the environment, and so on?

For his family and loved ones it is a tremendous loss, but lets have some perspective

12. ITA. I've quit watching MSNBC because I find it macabre....
this obsession on Russert's death.

Yes, I will miss him. He had become part of my weekends, and the GE certainly will not be the same without him.

But he's not the Baby Jesus. He was not a good journalist, IMO. He, as head of the D.C. bureau, failed miserably when he led the MSNBC media lemmings into backing Bush's lies getting us into Iraq. And that's just one instance.

He seemed like a nice guy, and I do have compassion for people who knew and loved him.

But why the nonstop public grieving? I think it cheapens the emotion, and raises the question: is this real or are they simply massaging a dead body to get more camera time?

MSNBC's macabre obsession is very unproessional. It makes me uncomfortable, and-as much as I loathe CNN--I will watch CNN for the next week because I just don't want to see any more blubbering from supposed professionals on MNBC.

It's like Weekend at Bernie's, for Christ's sake. Sick.

4. Russert died on Friday afternoon. This is the first time Miller & Co. has had a
chance to pay tribute.

7. "fine journalist" and Tim Russert do not belong in the same thread..
..I have no problem paying respects to person but let's not forget his role as cheerleader for the bush mis-administration for these past 7 1/2 years...

It's a terrible shame when someone passes away suddenly, but let's hold off on the sainthood a little while shall we?
