Former Clinton Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle Joins Obama Team
NYT: June 16, 2008
Former Clinton Campaign Manager Joins Obama Team
By Adam Nagourney

The Obama campaign is about to make its first big hire out of the campaign of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Patti Solis Doyle, who was Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign manager until she was ousted in a staff shake up in February, will join Mr. Obama’s campaign as the chief of staff to the vice presidential candidate – whoever he (or she) will be, campaign officials said.

Ms. Doyle will take the position before Mr. Obama announces his choice for a running-mate – he has not said when that will be. Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Doyle have a long friendship, and Ms. Doyle has long been one of her closest aides, until she was forced out. Could that mean – tea-leaf reading time – that Mr. Obama is really considering Mrs. Clinton for the No. 2 position, and wants to have an ally of her in place to ease the way? Perhaps.

Or perhaps not. More likely, the Obama campaign was looking for a high-profile spot to put Ms. Doyle, given her previous position, and most of the major roles in Mr. Obama’s campaign are filled.

Ms. Doyle’s hire is the latest sign of the two fields in the Democratic Party attempting to come together. She is also – not incidentally – a Hispanic woman, making her a member of two demographics that Mr. Obama has been making a particular effort to appeal to....

1. Also from the article
The Obama campaign also is strengthening the team working for Michelle Obama.
Later today, the campaign is set to announce the hiring of Stephenie Cutter, a longtime Democratic strategist who worked as Senator John Kerry’s communications director in 2004. Ms. Cutter is scheduled to begin soon, with the first task of re-crafting the image of Mrs. Obama, who has come under intense criticism by Republicans and even some Democratic rivals. She also will lead a war room to fight attacks against Mrs. Obama.

2. Oh God, no. Come on, BHO..... ONLY COMPETENT people.... she's horrible

Please.....can we resolve to ONLY hire competent people from the Clinton campaign?

Next we'll hear that he's hiring Penn... or Wolfson.... or Ickes.

5. This report is a bit weird, and premature. Wouldn't it make sense
to hire someone the VP nominee feels comfortable working with?

What if there is a personality conflict?

We'll have to see how this plays out.

28. If there's a personality conflict, you'll find out who'll be a team player
and who will be a prima donna in the White House.

if Obama has ALREADY decided who his VP is--and has his/her approval.

6. JMO, but I would not risk hiring any of the Clinton upper ranks....
I'd be cautious about embracing a potential mole.

The fact that Lanny Davis is on Fox makes me think it's part of Hillary's strategy for 2012.

15. Please don't let her bring her TV set with her!
We can't afford anymore soap operas during office hours. And after her financial mismanagement of Clinton's campaign, wtf is the Obama team thinking?

16. we would like to make the resolve, but all the "competent" people
seem to be heading to Faux news, and McSames side
Wolfson is off writing his tell all book
Penn is digging in Hillary's Garbage looking for some info he can use to steal her Identity and get his money back.

And Ickes
will more than likely be doing guest spots on Faux news beside Lanny Davis
IMO

27. She did seal up the Latino vote for Hillary
Plus obviously she must have some level of competence. Sometimes people just need a little bit less responsibility to be effective.

7. There is always the possibility....
that hiring Solis Doyle may be part of the negotiations between Obama and Hillary. Solis Doyle is reported to be one of Hillary's closest friends. Who knows...because it certainly doesn't make sense based on the reports of her less than stellar performance for Hillary.

12. Why not?
Kerry doesn't have an image problem. People need to start realizing that the entire 2004 GE campaign was a work of fiction perpetrated by the media playing shill to the GOP. The 59 million people who voted for Kerry saw past that. It's not like Bush won by 10 pts. In fact, the race was really close. If not for vote suppression and election tampering (winning just Ohio), Kerry would have won.

25. Thank you
It's ironic that people blame only Kerry instead of the media and lack of party support. Not to say that he didn't make mistakes, but the people that failed him should get more blame.

The big difference is that the media is showing Obama's speeches and his smackdowns to the lies/smears. Plus, Obama has Kerry, Biden, Richardson, Clark and others. They didn't do that in 2000 and 2004.

17. Putting on flamesuit... I'm glad Patti Solis is on board!
She is NOT as incompetent as Ickes, Penn, and all of the other MALE INCOMPETENTS on Hillary's staff made her out to be.

She did a great job at City Hall in Chicago.

However, I don't know that this position best utilizes her skills. I suspect she might switch positions later on.

23. I've been defending her
being hired this whole thread so it nice to see someone with a different opinion.

Maybe Obama has known her for a while and feels confident about hiring her for a high position. He might even have the VP picked out and know she would work well with the candidate?

24. She knows machines. She will be an asset in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Plus she knows ALL the big name latino politicos, especially in Cali and Texas.

It's not like she'll be taking Axelrod's job. Patti knows the rules about leaking and no drama.

It's a net gain, in my opinion.

It's ironic that she was dropped and now she has a job in the General.

failed campaign? The Clinton supporters said that Patti was in over her head and that she was behind the campaign spending like crazy.
